Re: The treble clef as handwritten by great composers

Stravinsky again, 1927. Bass clef looks kind of sad, though.

Re: [WORKBENCH] Brahms Op. 119, No. 1

I found this link to what looks like an official introduction to the National Edition: http://serwer1374796.home.pl/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/o_wydaniu_narodowym.pdf Is this what the Etudes look like as well? I'm not qualified to comment on the music engraving. But the typography looks really bad. ...

Re: [WORKBENCH] Brahms Op. 119, No. 1

As far as the quality of the actual output, I don't think they have a clue. I am afraid that Dorico is a publisher's and editor's dream come true: no more worrying about that pesky engraving stuff and expensive high quality engravers: Dorico achieves perfect results; every time, no matter who does ...

Re: What notation program is this?

Not being able to examine the score 'in vivo', and with a low resolution picture, I don't think it is done with computer. If you look at the microscopic level how the clefs are inconsistently positioned toward the left line, position of 8va on the clefs, and the time signatures different heights on...

Re: [WORKBENCH] Brahms Op. 119, No. 1

Thanks, John, for pointing me to the Finale forum. What I find frustrating about the Bärenreiter Brahms edition: Unlike the Bach example discussed there, we have, with Brahms, this beautifully engraved first edition that only needs to be recreated digitally to ensure high quality engraving. We don't...

Re: [WORKBENCH] Brahms Op. 119, No. 1

I had a look at the Bärenreiter edition of Brahm's op. 119 today. It's surprisingly bad. Some of the details scream "computer-engraved", and not in a good way.

Re: [WORKBENCH] Brahms Op. 119, No. 1

So, here is my attempt. I must admit that I found it quite challenging to do this in Sibelius. I didn't find a way to resolve the beaming issues in mm. 1, 9 and 11 in Sibelius, I had to use Illustrator for that. With regard to editorial decisions: I simply followed the new Henle edition, which can b...

Re: [WORKBENCH] Brahms Op. 119, No. 1

To all Sibelius users: How did you resolve the beaming issue ("beam corners") in bar 1, which can be seen in odod's first attempt (sorry for pointing that out again): http://notat.io/viewtopic.php?p=2797#p2797 Whatever I do, I can't seem to resolve the problem in Sibelius itself; the manual doesn't ...

Re: Community creates a textual font

By further search, I think that Theano Didot could be used beautifully for the lyrics, maybe with small modifications: Didone typefaces are certainly a popular choice for some music publishers. Henle is a good example, they use Bauer Bodoni for body text, titles etc. But I'm not sure if I've ever s...
