Sharps alignment in octaves - November/Sibelius
I am using November font with Sibelius, and I found an alignment problem with sharps in octaves, see the image. No other font in SIbelius has this issue. I have used November2 in Dorico with no issues. November2 is somewhat different from November which is a Sibelius specific version of the same fon...

Re: Attribution and Use of Sources
From what I understand, they still have all their data, but they don't want to simply "restore the backup and carry on" -- because those systems would have the same vulnerabilities. It's going to take time to migrate their data to new systems. I wholeheartedly hope so. However, their repo...

I can sit in my chair and browse through manuscripts from Vienna, Naples, Paris, London, etc. OT: À propos London: the British Library is still down since the ransomware attack in October 23: https://www.bl.uk/. One of the first reports of BL stated that the scanned files may never be recoverable a...

Re: Page size order conventions
OK: Verdi, Giuseppi. It seems to be common in formal and administrative use. True. It’s incorrect, though (see https://accademiadellacrusca.it/it/consulenza/%C3%A8-pi%C3%B9-corretto-firmare-nomecognome-o-cognomenome/93#:~:text=Come%2520si%2520pu%C3%B2%2520verificare%2520in,Mario%2520Rossi). Re: Lyrics in foreign language: italics of not?
I second John’s opinion: italics for words in languages other than the main language. “Adieu” has been incorporated in English, though (Marilyn Monroe sang “said adieu to love, don’t ever call again”), so no need for italics in this particular case. However I’d italicize the word in the score under ...

Re: Lyrics: to uppercase or not to uppercase?
Uppercasing first letter of verses is a typographical device which only makes sense in a book. It is probably used because short verses seeem “hanging in space” when lower cased. They don’t make much sense in a music score, unless the capitalization is intended as a way to mark the beginning/end of ...

Re: Ornaments in different languages
I have no suggestions of ornaments resources in different languages, but I am wondering. Speaking of baroque ornaments, I’d say most ornaments are kept in their original language: pralltriller, coulée de tierce, appoggiatura… Some others are translated: mordente/mordent/mordant… To make things more ...

Re: Italian question
the problem with the Italian "standard" terminology is, how do you determine where it means "continue to use the pedal as normal until the end" and when it actually means "hold your foot down on the pedal constantly without lifting it until the very end of the piece"? ...
