Re: Ossia: Finale versus Dorico
Hmm. I thought I just tried this and it worked, but it doesn't seem to. Interestingly, the staff name in the Staff Visibility list gets an "(a)", after it, when you add an ossia, which may be what I was seeing (and not noticing that there was no corresponding "(b)".) I'll report ...

Dorico 5.0.20 released
A nice little update today, which smooths over several teething issues from 5.0 (in addition to those in 5.0.10..!!) There's also a few improvements in functionality, including: In Write mode, tied notes will now respond collectively to appropriate property changes, e.g. Flip stem/tie, tie style, et...

Re: Ossia: Finale versus Dorico
I'm not sure what you mean, Michel -- you can aways use Staff Visiblity to hide a given ossia.

Re: Ossia: Finale versus Dorico
This took under 5 mins.
There's no prefatory clef or "ossia" label, I grant you. But the ossia is automatically given more space. The only manual adjustments I made were slightly moving the lyric syllables away from the dashed barlines.- 01 Jul 2023, 11:54

Re: How crowded a SSATB score should be?
The page header region is pretty large, by comparison with the rest. You could reduce it slightly. What staff size are you using? I tend to use a 15pt staff (3.75pt space), which is slightly smaller than Size 6. Choral music can be written quite small -- in fact, the often-seen schoolboy error is us...

Re: Behind Bars - "General Conventions"
Is it one Claff...? (Never look for analogues in English!)
One would hope that the greater connection (connexion?) that we all have with each other would bring more standardization -- in notation, too, as well as language.

Behind Bars - "General Conventions"
Faber have published an "entry-level" version of Behind Bars, covering the "General Conventions", but not going into all the detail. It's basically the first 240 pages for £25, which makes it more affordable, particularly for students; and so might get it more widely circulated. ...

Re: Teaching from terrible editions!
Well, that backfired. I've been asked to come in and give a talk about my work.
However, it turns out they are using the Novello edition; they just sent the CPDL files for the students to have at home.
