Re: Henle then and now

I think your version is better than both. Well, 'that'll do nicely'. Thank you. I leave it to Daniel to detail the extent of ABRSM influence on Dorico: though the results above are from my own settings, rather than the factory defaults. Yes, I haven't paid much attention to fingering settings in Do...

Re: Music Pubisher Software

If you want to see extreme non-curviness in a notation guide check out the Button/Elgar book "System in Musical Notation" from 1919. Novello's style is instantly recognisable and a law unto itself. A lot of it is moveable type, rather than engraving: you can certainly see the joints in th...

Re: Henle then and now

"Just for fun", I made my own quick stab at it. These are using my current Dorico settings: the only manual adjustments were that I changed the first long slur (left hand) to a Flat slur. Dorico also wanted the last beam of the 2nd bar (right hand) to be stem up, so I flipped it. I seem to...

Re: Henle then and now

Their treble clef has gone from leaning forwards with urgency to listing backwards with lethargy! They've clearly made a decision to avoid white triangles entirely. I agree that any sense of 'direction' has been lost as a result. You're right about the ballooning slurs. I'm not wild about the old be...

Improvements to Maestro in Finale Maestro

I posted this on the Finale forum, but I thought I would mention it here: MakeMusic did mention in passing that the new SMuFL fonts in Finale have been revised and improved over their original counterparts. So, here is the sfz glyph in Maestro: Screenshot 14.png ... and here's the sfz glyph in the n...

Re: Page numbering

a PDF, which appears as a new file with NUM added, very cool! All my Services that modify the PDF contents produce a new file with a new name. That way, mistakes can be corrected, and the file doesn't 'eat itself' while the job is processing. Note that page 1 is not numbered. I ought to provide an ...

Re: Page numbering

Sorry, John. Yes, it's a bit geek-orientated. The Read me doesn't need Calibre, though it might be the only thing you have to open it. You're best off looking at it on the website. It may also open in TextEdit. You have to edit the text of the script in the main panel. (You'll have to expand the &qu...

Re: Music Paper Colour (opinions needed!)

Hard to know without seeing it in the flesh: so let your eyes be the judge!

Presumably, the pink tint offsets the blue light that's often found in strong lights. Very interesting!
