Re: Beethoven's Tenth

It sounds like a pastiche imitation of the 5th symphony. I'm reminded of ABBA's recent new album, which I thought sounded exactly like ABBA, almost to the extent that it could have been an AI extrapolation of their back catalogue. Also, "Austrian composer Walter Werzowa, famous for writing Inte...

Re: Dorico slurs and beams

It's excellent, Ben. Great job! Thanks, John. Coming from you and your wonderful eye, that means a lot. Though, of course, any fule can copy someone else's work: the trick is knowing what to do in the first place! @benwiggy, would you be willing to share your parameters for the slurs? and other hou...

Re: Dorico slurs and beams

Here's my latest version, which does a bit of tweaking to the vertical spacing, and to a few more of the slurs (since last time).

Re: Dorico slurs and beams

I've reported the bug with bar numbers/repeats/breaks to Daniel, amongst other things. I left off the fingering, partly because that's editorial and 'proprietary', and partly because I was interested only in the beaming and slurring. Things like the inter-staff spacing can be done manually, and I da...

Re: Dorico slurs and beams

Ben, did you tweak any of the grace note slurs where there's a single note in your K330 example? Or are those your defaults? I'm getting much worse results than you with my default grace note slurs so was just wondering if there was some setting I was missing. Yes, the defaults were so poor that th...

Re: Dorico slurs and beams

Thanks, John. I have increased the short slur height to 5/8th of a space (from 3/4), which may be one fraction too much. Yes, there's still work to do, but the exercise is about minimizing what needs to be done! The other question is, of course, whether these settings will work well for other docume...

Re: Dorico slurs and beams

Here's a revision. I've thickened the slurs' middle, and increased the fraction of the length for the 'shoulders'. Manual adjustments are still to be made.

Re: Dorico slurs and beams

Thanks, John To be fair to Dorico, the music font is Sebastian (including the braces); and the expression font is of my choosing (but yes, probably should have gone with a different weight). I may not have always changed things for the better. I thought I had taken on board Fred's slurs settings, th...

Dorico slurs and beams

As we all know, one of the best ways to get good engraved results is to copy someone else's good engraved results. I've taken a sample page from Henle's edition of a Mozart Piano Sonata (K.330, 2nd section), and tried to replicate the beaming and slurring in Dorico. Here's the catch -- my prim...

Re: SCORE 3.1 [Looking to Buy]

It was the prospect of all the staff hiding, the titling of each scene, and manual positioning that scared me. Back on track, am I right in thinking that really, SCORE just provided a framework for turning instructions into notation, and it was those instructions where the 'meat' of the work was don...
