Buying a plate

I've only just found out** that Henle sells old plates from the "Gift Shop" on their website. They're advertised at €33, but after shipping (to UK) and VAT, it comes out as c. €60. There's no indication of what I'm going to get, so it's a lucky dip! I'll let you know when it arrives. ** On...

Re: Attribution and Use of Sources

They still have the paper originals, at least!

Re: Attribution and Use of Sources

One of the first reports of BL stated that the scanned files may never be recoverable again. I think that may have been based on limited information at the time; or just been sensationalist reporting. I was there just yesterday, (viewing a manuscript in person, like a sap.... ). You can read...

Re: Attribution and Use of Sources

It's probably worth mentioning that a lot of libraries will have received some sort of government funding for digital scanning programmes, which will make public access a condition. (EU cultural funding, particularly.) We do live in an extraordinary age, where I can sit in my chair and browse throug...

Re: Attribution and Use of Sources

In the days when you had to go to a library to consult the manuscript, it was at least "good manners" to write "grateful acknowledgment is made..." to the cathedral, university or whatever. That, and the requirement to ask permission, was probably contractual in the conditions of...

Re: OT: Text formatting in Preface

According to "Hart's Rules for Compositors at the University Press, Oxford": Use italic for long poems which are 'books', e.g. Paradise Lost, Childe Harold, etc. Use roman in quotations for shorter poems that would appear within a collection. Tempo marks used as titles e.g. "the Alleg...

No: I'm not swapping voice CONTENTS, but Voice ORDER, which does indeed swap the voice column index on each note.

Re: Opposing Seconds with dots

This is, as far as I can tell, Dorico's default. There is a Notation Options for Unisons, but not for seconds. It's a moment's work to fix it (Swap Voice Order), but it would be great not to have to do it at all. I realise there are complications with things like F# vs F natural; or G in the lower v...

Opposing Seconds with dots

I much prefer this:

instead of this:

The latter seems much too distorted/displaced from its 'true' position.

Who's with me?

Re: Spacing problem

Also, from what I can observe (possibly due to the browser's antialiasing), the note-heads appear to intersect with the staff lines. Ideally, the terminal points should align with the middle of the staff lines or at least coincide with the outer boundaries of the staff lines. I've noticed these &qu...
