I was looking briefly at the pictures before I read the description and I didn't want to analyse them carefully, but I just understood there was a trick; however I enjoyed their alignment which was completely natural for me. Re: Music spacing definition by Helene Wanske
Correct. Music spacing is very elastic. There are many different ratios that we could apply on the beat-, measure-, system- or entire piece-level. The most important thing is legibility and absolute meaning of graphic representation. Just to give you an example. A friend of mine wanted to have a ver...

Great to hear, and of course I am really looking forward to see it in vivo.dspreadbury wrote:For what it's worth, our new application also performs automatic optical adjustment of notes on opposite sides of a beam between staves. The results look more or less the same as Lilypond's defaults.

Re: Cross Staff - spacing
Thank you both for the clarification! Off topic: In Finale one can turn off automatic spacing and automatic updating Of course, it is possible, but I can basically not do so much: any entry in that system will override the manual adjustments if you want to respace music correctly. After so many year...

Re: Cross Staff - spacing
Here is another tricky question: How to notate simultaneously these two measures? What rule will be applied, and what is the reason behind it? shot 16.png P.S. This is done in MuseScore. I start to love it. It is easy to move notes, and they stay at that place fixed (not as Finale, they move all the...

Re: Cross Staff - spacing
I think we all agree about the way it should be. Is there any clear reference in the engraving rules literature about it?

Re: Music spacing definition by Helene Wanske
Won't 5 at least depend primarily on the nature of the music itself, especially with multi-stave systems? Interesting, though. I think that her explanation is so broad and so perfectly clear, that if used by a professional engraver it can result in a superb output, and in hands of amateur it can be...
