Re: Notation software user reviews

Very useful and interesting to read, indeed. Almost a projection for the future...
It is not only important for engravers and composers, but the research is of the outmost importance for the software developers in question.

Re: Short Slurs (Octaves)

Personally, I don't like Dorico-slurs (default). There is something odd with that, likewise with Sibelius - keeping in mind that same people developed it. Default slurs (if they are these above) are ugly, and I haven't seen these shapes in the older music literature. Such small slurs were punched, n...

Re: Sibelius and font kerning

Does kerning work with Lyrics in Sibelius? That could solve it- perhaps.

Re: Sibelius and font kerning

There are numerous settings available when exporting a font from FF, I don't know if some of them can solve it?

Re: Riemann: an OpenType font for functional analysis

The system I use and teach is the old central-east European style of mediants. Basically, there is Tonic, its two Dominants on the perfect fifths (SubDominant: SD, and SuperDominant: D) and for each of them there are Mediants on thirds (SubMediants: SM; and SuperMediants: M). We never use "super", i...

Re: Riemann: an OpenType font for functional analysis

Here I have faced a problem, symbols "-" and "_" create hyphens or word extensions. So here it stopped working. Hm … That’s very similar to the problems in LilyPond (here numbers being another problem). There you can just add quotes: "_3D-7" instead of _3D-7 Maybe you can get it work similarly in F...

Re: Riemann: an OpenType font for functional analysis

Also: how do you create "11" or "13"?

Re: Riemann: an OpenType font for functional analysis

After a short test, just a quick response: The most of the notation programs with a GUI use different tools for creating texts, and I find the Lyrics to be the most efficient to do it. You just type the text and it appears perfectly aligned. In Finale: Here I have faced a problem, symbols "-" and "_...

Re: Sibelius and font kerning

I faced a similar problem when trying to enter ligatures in order to "latinise" the greek, such as ∂ into d͜h. Two aspects were problematic here: Sibelius cannot accept input from the HEX Input and is very problematic using anything behind 255 slots. Yes, it is an unicode software, but also with man...
