Re: Simple syncopation notation

Dear Brooks, Welcome to the forum. Your scoring in Dorico is very nice. About your question: while it is nothing theoretically wrong with it (and that notation definitely could be applied for two different instruments), I assume that a better way to notate it for pianist would be to have cross-staff...

M35 RH can be a dotted half rest.
I disagree with this. You should always be able to see the middle of the measure. A dotted half rest would obscure that.
Not always. It is perfectly correct that way. But if starting at beat 2, the rest it must be broken.

Re: Tremolo spacing?

It looks very good to my eyes.
Sometimes the beams cross the staff-lines, sometimes no.
M35 RH can be a dotted half rest. Also maybe to organise dynamics more clear.

David, as usually, makes a good looking score with many Finale defaults! That is not so easy.

This should definitely be added there:

Check that every fermata is present in every part.

Re: A modern looking score in 2018?

My final thought: changing the fonts does not result in getting more contemporary outlook of a score. It can be just different. The notation is written symbolic language, thus small omissions can have a great impact on the language. As a written language the notation describes sound or music, and so...

Re: A modern looking score in 2018?

Now, if we take these scores away to a reasonable distance, the first example is much more readable than the second one. Simply said, the perception and the size is much more efficient with the stylised serif; one that ignore this fact is making just more trouble in engraving. One could say that sa...

Re: How best to show alternative words for singer?

As benwiggy said above, I think that the ossia text should just go italic. In my opinion it is the clearest option.
