Re: [puzzle] Two voices in one staff

Anyone interested in sharing the technique for having the tie not pass through the notehead? Is there a plug-in involved? (In Finale) There is no a direct solution to "cut" the slur in Finale, but there are workarounds. 1. Enter with two slurs, measure attached, than fine tune them to look like the...

Re: When should interpretation should become?

I don't see exactly why the dotted 8 would be performed shorter, since there is no indication for that. On the other hand, writing the second way (interpretation) makes another layer of probability - that it could be played even shorter than one eight. My final comment is that the interpretation-not...

Re: Finale or Sibelius

Right Laurence, so it is. I'v just started with Sib on a smaller-size project (chamber opera), where no particular extended technique is used. It works good so far. It works more quick for what I do now.
Yet I am missing some features of "total control" what is found within Finale.

Re: Notating to encourage rubato.

A few accel.'s and rit's., feathered beaming, small notes, and/or more complex tuplets would help the player know more clearly what you want. Wonderful! Very good ideas. David, I am always amused how you create very nice and balanced scores just using all default fonts and almost the default settin...

Re: Notating to encourage rubato.

My feeling is the same as yours, David. With such slow tempo and complex rhythm it is indeed 'difficult' to catch rubato. Just "slow and easy" is enough to relax the player, in my opinion. Or maybe "extreme rubato" is what you hear, in that case I would write some small tempo changes... and omit rub...

Re: Triplets in 6/8

I think that you can leave to the performer to play rubato. There is a great tendency in the new music to notate everything , leaving to the performer nothing except exact execution. I admire Brahms, he just write p or f, and it works beautifully, yet VERY hard to perform. You can post a screenshot o...

Re: Triplets in 6/8

For the first 3 measures I woul just write one 16 (no triplets, just 16th rest + 16note), it is to close to be percepted. For m4-7 I would write grace notes instead of 16-tuplet note. In m8 I would write just 3 eights. This is just my opinion as a performer, your notation looks to complex for the hu...

Re: "Library" vs "Performance" editions

You don't mean "study score" or "pocket score" to say "taschenpartitur"?
Interesting, I'v never heard about the "library" edition.
