Re: Short Slurs (Octaves)

In general, Dorico's slurs, like Sibelius's, need less "lift" in the middle. Possibly a bit more than John's, to my eyes. Right now even your slurs direct attention too far away from the notes themselves. They should point more closely to the noteheads.

Re: New to engraving...am I on the right track?

In addition to what has been said above, I also think somewhat of a heavier weight would assist readability.

Re: Music Type Foundry - question

UE - their historical style (such as the examples I have posted around this forum in the past), not their current style.

Re: Music Type Foundry - question

Not Abraham, but I consider the Cadence font to be exactly what you're looking for - bold yet incredibly modern and unobtrusive.

I also have a soft spot for Universal's house style (MTF-Arnold) and think their combination of fonts and design is incredibly modern, but I know some will disagree.

Inconsistent beaming in Bruckner

While perusing a critical edition of Bruckner's Psalm 150, I noticed that several figures in a solo soprano line are beamed in the modern fashion, i.e. with two groups of four eighth notes in 4/4. This is preserving the notation from the manuscript, in fact: bruckner_1.PNG However, after a few bars,...

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

Dorico really needs the edge rounding that LP has for its lines. The slurs, in particular, look ridiculous at that thickness with flat edges.

I like the cueing style a lot as well.

Re: Simple syncopation notation

David, I don't think we'll convince the other of our points of view at this point; but I do agree with you in regards to consistency. I have Gould's book on order so I'll take a look when it arrives.

Re: Simple syncopation notation

David, the dictionary does not always make that clear for singers, in my opinion. Res - ur - rec - tion, as just one example, which doesn't even divide according to word structure.

Here, in my view, is a clear-cut case of starting the second syllable with a consonant.

Re: Simple syncopation notation

m. 216: flip the vocal slur or otherwise move it. The bar looks messy as it is. m. 218: no extender needed. It just clutters the page. I agree with John on the "Chopin style" of notation. m. 211: sa - vio(u)r, not sav - io(u)r. I know the dictionary says differently, but the dictionary does not divi...
