Re: Making the switch to Dorico?

Still not comfortable with note entry. I really should remap the rhythms to the numeric keypad to make it more like Sib/Fin. I'm not either. I decided to just go with their default values (diff than Finale obviously) and force myself to learn it. I remapped all kinds of other stuff though. I have a...

Making the switch to Dorico?

Hi all, I was just curious now that 2.x has been out a while, who else is making the switch over to Dorico? I see benwiggy over on the forums a lot, but just wondering who else is trying it and what your experience has been. I finally did my first commission in it (mostly because the Kimmel Center g...

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

Yes. The copy protection scheme hasn't changed. Ugh, I'm sure they've heard the complaint a zillion times, but I really wish they would go to a copy protection scheme like Finale, Sibelius, Adobe, etc. For those of us that travel a lot plus use a more powerful desktop for a home/studio setup it's k...

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

For those that have tried it, is the copy protection scheme the same? Do you still need a dongle if you want to use it on a desktop and a laptop?

Re: Pitch bracket notation

From your link: "The pitch of a note, however, is not relative to the pitch of the previous note. Rather, it is relative only to the staff lines. Musicians learn to recognize common pitch intervals between notes but only by referencing the staff lines. So you might say that the pitch dimension is no...

Re: Does score quality influence performance?

Parts that are inadequate and lose rehearsal time are another matter. I'm also doubtful it affects an actual performance much but it certainly affects sightreading, rehearsals, and the effort the musicians will spend on new music. Years ago I used to play in the ensemble for the BMI Composer's Work...

Re: Dorico 1.2 released

@Fred, that’s correct. Only the USB dongle will allow you to use Dorico on multiple machines. Thanks, that's what I thought. Not a major inconvenience provided I don't lose the thing, but it would be nice if they would switch to a system that will allow two activations, like some of their competito...

Re: Dorico 1.2 released

Looks like it's coming along! I'm tempted to buy it. If I need to be able to use it on both a desktop and a laptop, I have to buy the boxed version with the dongle, right? There's still no registration scheme that allows the user to have it installed on two computers?

Re: On style guides

Sorry for jumping in between, but Fred - do you have these guides that we can obtain somehow? The Schirmer guide is available for sale: https://classicalondemand.com/manual-of-style.html The Boosey guide is only for in house distribution, but ... there are copies floating around. OCTO, you posted t...

Re: On style guides

Would you be providing a template file, or is this recreating your style from scratch? IME the most common situation I encounter is when I've had to hire a team to extract parts or help with editing, so I provide the files with my settings already applied, and then screenshots and examples of parts ...
