Re: An age old engraving problem

And here's a post I did on a separate topic that is related to your query: https://notat.io/viewtopic.php?p=10221#p10221 Ah, that's the thread I was remembering! I just posted the following image over on the Dorico forum too: masking.png I find this subject pretty interesting. It obviously was not ...

Re: An age old engraving problem

We did briefly discuss this in this thread a few years ago. I'm not sure there's been any development with any of the major software though. I would certainly be curious to see some results if one of them wanted to offer it as an option.

Gould pg 426 is what I usually refer to.

Re: Scores in C or transposing?

I seem to recall that there was a very famous 20th century conductor who had the sacrificial dance in the Rite of Spring rebarred in 4/4. :( IIRC, there was a story about a choreographer doing that, as the dancers thought of everything in groups of 4 (or 8) counts. Transposed score always for me. T...

Re: Rhythmical alignment between voices

Ah, that's a neat way to do it! Then you don't even have to manually align the 16th rest. I'm not sure why it's not working for you, but I managed to get it to work.

Although technically shouldn't the 16th rest arrive slightly before the start of the cadenza notes?

Re: Rhythmical alignment between voices

Seems pretty clear 3/4 to me. Top instrument correct as is. Vocal hits the F on beat 3 then has a cadenza during the fermata up until the C, at which point everyone is back in time. Error seems to be in the Piano as the fermata really should be on beat 3, not beat 2, which is misplaced. It wouldn't ...

Re: Gould's Repeat Mark-Clef Rule

I am interested in knowing whether Gould based this rule on a tradition that I've never encountered. Obviously we were chatting about this on the Dorico forum too, but I think the tradition is "repeats are not barlines ... except when they are" LOL! Without too much effort, I'm sure you c...

Re: Dorico slurs and beams

The only thing I don’t like of Ross’s prescriptions is the 1 1/4 slant for 4ths and 5ths. It’s too big for me. I agree with you. I tried to get as close to Ross as I could, just to see what was possible, and then I actually went back and slightly softened a bunch of the angles for my own defaults.

Re: Dorico slurs and beams

It was actually a collision with an accidental and a flat beam that started me down this path again. My current settings handle Ross pg 118 pretty well too.

Re: Dorico slurs and beams

I wonder if there is a real solution to get, say 80 or 90% as one would like to, and manually adjust the inevitable. I just reconfigured all my beam settings over the weekend, and pretty much threw out all my older settings. In addition to Ross and the UE handbook, Clinton Roemer's book has very de...
