Re: Forthcoming Dorico update

A Peek at some of the updates in Dorico coming sometime toward the end June 2017

Re: Tutti

I guess I'm still confused as to what is happening here. A "tutti" marking in the Vln I part would indicate that all the Violins I are playing as opposed to a solo or smaller sub-grouping. What is happening in the Vln II and Vla parts has no bearing whatsoever on tutti indications in the ...

Re: Tutti

If I understand your situation correctly, the solo/tutti distinction only relates to the first violin section, and the tutti marking would therefore go in measure 83. I'm assuming the tutti goes in measure 83 because that's we're the solo for violin 1 ends. As I said earlier, during the solo in mea...

Tutti

I have a string orchestra piece where the Violin 1 section has a solo player for 1 measure (82). Violin 2 and Viola have 2 notes in the same measure (82). Cello and base have nothing. The next measure (83) everyone plays. Does the tutti go in measure (83) or measure (82) where Violin 2 and Viola hav...

I can see the difficulty they had (maybe it's the scan). The bottom of the multi-stave slur look rougher then the top, less elegant.

John Ruggero wrote:I can imagine, David, given some of the beauties I see in the vocal score available at IMSLP! (USA and Canada only) His Piano Sonata is a feast of slurs of unusual shapes. Many of them look difficult or impossible to draw in Finale.
True, that's why illustrator is a must for me.

Re: Please enlighten me on the meaning of...

Here is the Barber done in Finale with one slur only. The lack of sufficient control points is clear: Barber 1 slur Finale .jpg Here is one done in Finale with 3 slurs. I am not experienced in putting slurs together, but I find this result promising and at least better than the original edition whi...

Re: Please enlighten me on the meaning of...

Is Dorico worth buying for things like this right now? Or are there some quirks that need to be worked out before I would consider buying it (I want to, but I'm uneasy about buying a version that is incomplete to some extent). I decided that Dorico, at its present state, just isn't worth the cross ...

Re: Please enlighten me on the meaning of...

Nicholas, G, if that is Dorico, can the S-shaped slur be made to look more like the original, or maybe even better? (Sorry, I'm not NicholasG, but anyways...) Dorico' slurs can be advanced as you want, including flat. So, making a slur as nicely shaped as the original should be easy for someone wit...
