Re: Test topic.
Very strange. The previous test post went through on this thread, but when I tried pasting a longer post here it didn't go through again, and I get the error message: No route found for "GET /posting.php" (from "http://notat.io/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=432&p=6149") Maybe its ...

Re: Test topic.
For two days I have been trying to post, so far without success. After writing a post in the full editor, I can't even get to the preview stage.

Re: Beauty in a digitalised world of music copying
OCTO, the same thought keeps occurring to me for a quite a while now and has been one of my concerns about Dorico. If every decision is made by machine intelligence, the result will look machine-like and unappealing. We see something analogous in architecture. The machine-like plainness of the inter...

Re: Headless notes and their articulations
Gould places the dots directly over the stems (page 404). This does seem better to me for the reason you gave: the stem is the only available "position factor". For the same sort of reason, the octave sign would be placed over the last G only (see page 326 in Gould) since it is the only de...

Re: New font for figured bass: Figurato
I'm curious: at what size did you test the font? It's developed for use at 9/10 pt which is quite small and I found that the figures are easier to read when there's a bit of space between the components. I can only insert individual glyphs in Finale because your combinations don't come up in Text>S...

Re: New font for figured bass: Figurato
Florian, Figurato is an excellent and attractive font for figured bass, and I downloaded it for possible future use in Finale. Your implementation of it in Dorico is superb. If only Dorico met my other needs... Just one quibble. I would prefer that accidentals be closer to the numbers, as in the BGA...

Re: Correct grammar for "assai" and "molto"
1. A little online "research" yields the fact that adjective-noun order in Italian does sometimes change the meaning; in other cases, it just sounds better one way or the other. I would assume that adverb-adjective order would be similar. One is accustomed to seeing "Allegro assai&quo...

Re: New font for figured bass: Figurato
The classic, encyclopedic work in Engish is by your compatriot F. T. Arnold: The Art of Accompaniment from a Thorough-Bass (Oxford, reprinted by Dover). The conventions varied a lot from era to era and composer to composer. One could also read the section on figured bass from C. P. E. Bach's Essay o...

Re: Some thoughts on Bravura
Here are samples of Maestro and Fravura to illustrate some of OCTO's points, with which I am mostly in agreement. I prefer the Maestro font noteheads, accidentals, rests, dynamics, most articulations and time signatures. This is the reason that I would need the Maestro font or something very like it...

Re: SMuFL creation
Thanks very much for inquiring, tisimst. That is very good of you. I have noticed a few resemblances between the two fonts: the black note heads appeared almost identical when I compared them a while ago, but Maestro seems more elegant to me. I like the dynamic symbols in particular. Bravura looks w...
