Re: Brahms vs Joachim on articulation

I think your comment is very perceptive, Schonbergian. A kind of heaviness comes over such music that is completely at odds with the style when those long slurs are added. But do most current composers use slurs to show phrases rather than legato? Perhaps those that do feel that it is impossible for...

Re: Font Attempt

odod, I understand your interest in the fonts used by these publishers and desire to personalize your engraving, but not why you seem to imitate other less praiseworthy aspects of these editions. But maybe I am wrong about you doing that. In any case, for me, the personalizing has more to do with de...

Brahms vs Joachim on articulation

Commentary The accompanying exchange (see the attached file at the end of this post) occurred in May 1879 in letters between Brahms and his good friend Joseph Joachim. They were ironing out various technical issues in the solo part of Brahms’ violin concerto. Brahms admired Joachim both as a violini...

Re: Font Attempt

Your engraving has a warm, inviting overall appearance, but seems to be a different font from the previous examples. The black noteheads will appeal to those, like me, who like wider ones. The flags in all of your examples seem OK to me. Thanks for bringing Nepomuk to my attention. It is an excellen...

I meant with exact pitches the first time. But this may be completely contrary to your intention.

I was also stunned by those high notes!

Re: Font Attempt

I agree with Schonbergian, Knut and Florian that the black note heads might be a little wider. But I think this is a matter of taste. If an expression or hairpin pertains to both staves, I position it (by eye) so that it appears "centered" between the music in the two hands. (This does not...

Re: Dorico 1.2 released

Knut, is there still a problem with the basic slur shape? And could you list some aspects of Dorico that prevent you from switching over completely?

Re: Interviews with Elaine Gould

Thanks, David. It was interesting to hear about her days as a hand copyist. I was disappointed that she doesn't seem interested in revising her book, since there are things that should be corrected.

Re: Engraving in MuseScore

Sorry, OCTO. MS. All these years of MakeMusic are showing! I must confess that I started to like these clefs. As it is with strange food, at the first you could vomit, than after you used it for a while you start to like it. On the other hand, there is the case of beets. I literally did vomit the fi...
