Re: Inquiry on the origin of ties

I guess it was an attempt (a misguided one, in my opinion) to simplify the notation in situations where the two notes are automatically "tied" when the bow does not change direction. It assumes that they are using slurs very strictly to show the bowing. One might find the practice explaine...

Re: Inquiry on the origin of ties

Interesting. Have never seen this in piano music of any period. Could this be a strictly string and wind thing? But I've never seen it in string and wind music either. Plenty of missing slurs and ties, but they are errors, not a regular practice. Could you provide examples from IMSLP? I looked a lit...

Re: The End of FINALE

My wife has an iPhone, parked, and just for the grandkids.

Re: The Palmer Method

Beautiful script. Ledgers of the most mundane kind were works of art. I learned to hold a pencil as you do, but applied too much downward pressure against my third finger. Arnstein spotted this while I was copying music and the resulting bump, and gave me a good lecture. My wife said that as they wr...

Re: The End of FINALE

Hi David. Sorry they have you over a technological barrel. I too had to buy another computer, a mini, when I switched to Dorico last year, so now I have three minis, two with older operating systems and all three with Finale on them. Hoping that will hold me in the archive area. I use a little flip ...

Another homebody here. Never owned a laptop. Nor a smart phone. Be lost without my trusty desktop.

Oh no. There's only so much obsolescence one can take in two weeks. Next, it's desktops.
