Re: SCORE-based fonts

We do say that :) It's maybe worth pointing out that the weight of the symbols in SCORE's output is down to what line width setting you use when printing (i.e. generating the EPS); that determines what width of stroke is applied to the paths of all symbols, though it's possible to specify a modifier...

Re: Dorico/Lilypond/SCORE?

Unfortunately the code isn't available; it's not open-source, and when Leland Smith died he left no arrangements in place for what should happen to it, and his family didn't seem interested in doing anything with it. It would be perfectly possible to recreate it from scratch though (the way it works...

Re: Dorico/Lilypond/SCORE?

(I'm the one doing the SCORE'ing in the video) I bought my copy back in 2002 for £600 or something like that. Still cheaper than Sibelius 7 which was £795 in those days as I recall... Yes, SCORE is obsolete now. This makes me feel sad as the real problems with it are the legacy hardware limits (vect...

Re: Scalable Vector Graphics (inkscape, illustrator)

James Ingram used to do Stockhausen's scores in this way, kind of (basic input in Finale, then all the actual work in FreeHand, later subsumed into Illustrator). They remain the most beautiful scores I've ever seen. https://james-ingram-act-two.de/stockhausen/stockhausenSoftware.html I always consid...

Re: Musescore 3.5.0.13199

Yes, I've seen this quite often in Japanese engraving; it works rather well, I think.
I'm most intrigued by the text font though (like in b.14) - what's that?

Re: Does anyone know what Strauss intended?

At the end of Act 2 (score p431) Strauss asks Vc and Db to tune down to low Bb; so the scordatura could feasibly continue until the beginning of Act 3. That said, it may just be another example of Strauss's "I write what I want" attitude (like his notorious violin low E, etc), and in pract...

Re: Musescore 3.5.0.13199

Yes, I never liked the mp ligature either and was a bit surprised to see it in Bravura. (Of course, mp is a bit of a nonsense dynamic anyway, as Berio used to say, but that's another matter) :)

Re: Musescore 3.5.0.13199

Totally agreed. I often felt SCORE worked better in orchestral music (i.e. at a small size) than for piano music, though actually this is as much as anything to do with the line width setting in SCORE, which is often carelessly handled - I've seen lots of orchestral scores which are too heavy and pi...

Re: Musescore 3.5.0.13199

Very nice, and pretty SCORE-faithful! Bärenreiter no longer use SCORE for new publications but it looks like for most of their scores now they use a font (presumably Partita) to give the impression that they still are. Not often especially well engraved, though a bigger problem is their editorial st...

Re: Musescore 3.5.0.13199

Here's a page showing 3.6 in action. This is pretty much "out of the box" as far as settings go, so there's plenty wrong here, and obviously one could spend ages tweaking things to get them to look correct; but those are big problems to solve in code, in future versions. (Slurs are an obvi...
