NCS

Hi All I have been using new Century Schoolbook for Boosey and Hawkes for over 20 years. I recently upgraded OS to mac OSX.11 (El Capitan) and now all I get for NCS are black boxes. Does anyone know why this is, and if it has no solution, is there a way of getting an up to date version without givin...

Re: Mastering Rachmaninoff

Hi all I've been exceptionally busy recently so not been on here much, but am browsing through. If what I say here duplicates others, I apologise. however, i was a little worried by the OP's © caption: "This version released into the public domain" Rachmaninoff died in March 1943, so by my...

Unfortunately, I don't think there is any way to improve the default settings in Finale to accommodate these situations, without compromising others at the same time. Here's my effort: Skjermbilde 2016-03-03 kl. 12.18.00.png My solution for manually adjusting these situations is: 1. Not to overstat...

Re: Extreme dynamics

As I recall this one of the issues Stockhausen was struggling with. Pitch and duration can be specified in ways that are exact and definable, but dynamics cannot. On a computer simulation, of course, there are 127 velocity settings, but human interpretation of these is not so precise, and different ...

I wouldn't disagree with that. I was arguing as devil's advocate, having had to deal with such things over a number of years.

Re: Extreme dynamics

I don't think Gruber's ffff. is any louder than anyone else's ff, but by having a larger scale it is (arguably) possible to be more specific in the gradations. Of course, everyone knows that Tchaikovsky used pp. in the clarinet part of the pathetic symphony, but as the clarinet can play almost silen...
