Re: The End of FINALE

My 12 year old desktop Mac Mini won't allow software capable of running Dorico 5, so my 9 year old MacBook is due to function for a while as my new desktop connecting to a large portrait orienting monitor etc etc. I'm just now typing this on a brand new MacBook which I plan to take with me on my aut...

Re: Cymbal notation question

In English I would be unequivocal. The list of percussion instruments at the beginning would include both Suspended Cymbal (with any required sub-types listed as appropriate) and Clashed Cymbals, then later I'd have something like ‘cyms. clashed’. Exactly how you might word this would depend on the ...

Re: Security certificate expired

I seem to remember, albeit rather vaguely, that a certificate was obtained that would run out after a certain period (3 years?) and that renewal when due would need action. I *think* this was all done by OCTO but I may be wrong. Might there be some cost involved? My memory of this is far from clear ...

Re: Brief use of independent time signature

Thank you both: I've now made it as in the screenshot, which appears to be what I had in my pencil sketches from the start. For one reason or another, when I use Finale I sometimes have a habit of changing things which might have been best left as they were.

Re: Brief use of independent time signature

This was my original tuplet. Which do people prefer: this nonet-tuplet (nonetlet? nonlet?), or the independent time signature with three triplets? And on further reflection this morning, I think maybe I'm likely to go back to the 9:6 tuplet I originally had, unless anyone here comes up with a compel...

Brief use of independent time signature

I previously had Cl.1 play a tuplet of 9:6 in 6/8, but have edited it so that this clarinet now stays in 3/4 for three bars while everyone else who is playing continues to alternate between 6/8 and 3/4. Tempo :5d = 69. Which solution seems best to people on this forum? It is made more complicated (p...

Re: To condense or not to condense, that is the question...

It must surely depend on the nature, character and scale of the score. I've just been (minor) editing a score of mine from 2012 of a 90 minute piece that plays continuously (although a break is possible if preferred). With most empty staves removed it is on 315 pages of full score, but there are 410...
