Re: Repeated tone abbreviations Part 2
tisimst, will the sides of the slashes remain perpendicular to the staff lines for all degrees of tilt? These seems highly desirable to me, and I thought I saw this in your LilyPond example as well. The script I've got can do the following: 1. Just shear it like the beam 2. Sheared, but with thickn...

Re: Repeated tone abbreviations Part 2
Looking at it very casually, it seemed that beams have approx. a 45 degree limit in both directions, which presents an approx. 90 degree scope. Wouldn't every angle need to be taken in to account = 90 glyphs? Regardless of how many you need, this would be very easy to generate using a simple script...

Re: Belaieff
Your suspicion is correct, OCTO. From my quick perusal, it is a historical textbook that only showed images of front covers in the context of the historical treatise. I didn't see a single page of music in it.

Re: Belaieff
My local university library seems to have this! I'm going to see if I can sneak over there today to take a look.

Re: [puzzle] Slur solutions 2
In all fairness, the original image I posted should be the same settings as that shown by DatOrganistTho. I think the confusion is being caused by the resolution of my original image that was captured from the PDF viewer, which I've noticed can cause the contrast to appear smaller than it actually i...

Re: Repeated tone abbreviation standards
I agree with OCTO. This is very nice, John! Thanks for sharing and bring up. This is right in line with LilyPond's default behavior when the notes are beamed together: LilyPond-beamed-repeated-notes.png What does the one counter example in La Boheme look like, John? Honestly, I can't imagine it look...

Re: LilyPond - Youtube introduction
I haven't seen the whole thing, but based on some outtakes, this guy seems ill informed. Characterizing Finale and Sibelius' notational output as "horrible" doesn't seem fair at all. I agree with you, Knut. Under the hands of an experienced engraver/copyist, there's no reason that a score...

Here's another long unofficial series by Ben Lemon for beginners. It's starting to be a little old, but most of the content is still relevent to current versions: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... lU1TsNzq2R

Re: [puzzle] Slur solutions 2
Thanks, tisimst! The slur tips are way too thick for me (which, I'm guessing, can easily be adjusted), but apart from that, these examples make it pretty clear just how superior Lilypond's default handling of slurs is to Finale. Yes, these are also easily changed with (default values shown): \overr...

Re: [puzzle] Slur solutions 2
I realize that most of the discussion has been around Finale's settings, but I thought I'd share this if anyone is interested. In LilyPond, to go from the top system to the bottom (i.e., ignoring collisions between slurs and accidentals), it is done by adding the tweak \override Slur.details.acciden...
