Re: Music Software & Bad Interface Design: Avid’s Sibelius

I think the video is spot on, regardless if it’s about Sibelius. Anyone who endeavors to create a truly intuitive and user friendly menu system should really consider the points he makes.

And just to be clear, I about died laughing.

Re: SMuFL creation

I don’t disagree with you at all. I’ll reach out to my contact at MM to see if there has been any progress lately. For what it’s worth, Bravura started out with the same heritage as Maestro, but Steinberg have added their own touch to it so that it no longer resembles it.

Re: SMuFL creation

I’d certainly be willing, but it’s copyright MM, so without their permission it’s a no-go. Besides, word on the street is that they’ve already embarked down this path on their own. Only time will tell if it manages to surface or not.

Re: New Harp Pedal Font

I don’t disagree with you. The existence of this font must be an indication for the need of a simpler way, more musically connected way of doing it. Since this is text based and also syntactically accurate (meaning, it’s more than just saying if a pedal should be up or down, it’s the actual tuning),...

New Harp Pedal Font

Hey Friends! I'm pleased to announce a new (and really affordable!) font for all you engravers who need to add harp pedal diagrams to your scores. Created by Jawher Matmati, it makes creating the diagram *so* easy! And since it works like regular text, it's compatible with any music notation softwar...

Re: From png to font type

If the PNG is sufficiently high resolution, I would use Inkscape’s image tracer to vectorize it, then you can either save as SVG or EPS and import those curves directly into FontForge into any character slot. Once you’ve got all the variants you need, then exporting as a font should be easy (or you ...
