Re: Software: Overture

This wasn't my review, but a quote of someone's on another forum. I found it interesting but didn't see, for example, how the Finale sample represents modern engraving while LilyPond looks like an older style of e.g. Schirmer. The 8th rest positions in Overture was an oversight, since fixed, but int...

Re: "Ten Music Notation Programs", including Dorico

Could you add NoteAbility to this comparison? It is free software: http://debussy.music.ubc.ca/NoteAbility/index.html For the 10 years this comparison has been around, I've had several requests to add other programs, but I wanted to keep it a comparison of only the most popular applications. I unde...

Re: Software: Overture

It's by Don Williams, who wrote Encore. I started with Deluxe Music Construction Set, moved to Professional Composer, actually learned Finale v. 1, upgraded to 2 and 3, looked for something easier, found Overture 2 much easier, upgraded to 3 and 4. I'm not planning to upgrade to 5, since notation is...

Re: Software recognition, by eye

In response to an earlier post with link in this thread about Graphire, it's no longer available at the $895 price shown in that link, but is now $140, at another website, listed in the Ten Programs acknowledgements. Hey, that's great! Thanks for pointing that out, John! Hmmm... Now that I actually...

Re: Software recognition, by eye

There's some help for recognition of different applications in "Ten Music Notation Programs", which has a one-page score in Dorico, Encore, Finale, LilyPond, MuseScore, Graphire Music Press, Notion, Overture, Score and Sibelius. Re: Composers vs Engravers: stem direction 3

It certainly is a complex symbol, and one that in my very humble opinion is not often done well. John's looks very nice.

... the famous Ruggero G clef ...
Justifiably famous, I'd say. I wondered if it was Cadence, and it didn't look too far from Sonata (my favorite).
