Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

Dorico really needs the edge rounding that LP has for its lines. The slurs, in particular, look ridiculous at that thickness with flat edges.

Re: Hand copiedf part from - when?

I like the cueing style a lot as well.

Re: Simple syncopation notation

David, I don't think we'll convince the other of our points of view at this point; but I do agree with you in regards to consistency. I have Gould's book on order so I'll take a look when it arrives.

Re: Simple syncopation notation

David, the dictionary does not always make that clear for singers, in my opinion. Res - ur - rec - tion, as just one example, which doesn't even divide according to word structure.

Here, in my view, is a clear-cut case of starting the second syllable with a consonant.

Re: Simple syncopation notation

m. 216: flip the vocal slur or otherwise move it. The bar looks messy as it is. m. 218: no extender needed. It just clutters the page. I agree with John on the "Chopin style" of notation. m. 211: sa - vio(u)r, not sav - io(u)r. I know the dictionary says differently, but the dictionary doe...

Re: A modern looking score in 2018?

It turns out I was wrong about UE - they have occasionally used sans-serif within their scores, as in the below example: https://i.gyazo.com/abd3526de2a5a94c3f75c0d69e1f6baf.png However, I feel this works because: 1) It is used very sparingly and does not replace any of the "iconic" music ...

Re: Typesetting em dashes in lyrics - best solution?

System brackets are not typically used within this context in modern hymnals.

Perfectly centering the dashes will take some work but seems like the best of a less-than-ideal group of solutions.

Re: New classic typeface

I've seen a nearly-identical typeface in use by Schirmer in the past, so it's not limited to the Durand style in my view.

Re: A modern looking score in 2018?

At the risk of sounding like an appeal to authority, I am a professional singer who sight-reads several brand-new scores every week for a living, so I don't consider my opinion entirely uneducated on the matter. I would have more difficulty using a score that adheres to your standards than to what y...

Re: Tremolo spacing?

I have some quibbles with your syllabification, David - but I'm not sure if this is the correct thread for that. The only thing I have to say about the tremolo beam is that it should be less "Finale-like" and more slanted. It doesn't stand out against the staff lines like it should. Agree ...
