Re: BW-balance

Related: something I learned early on when I was cutting my teeth writing for orchestra. After writing an orchestration I'll print out the score and just glance at it from a "10,000 foot" level—not paying attention to detail. The grayness factor gives me a really great sense of my overall...

Re: Muzitex - for music text

Knut, that all you describe is above my knowledge. Sorry about that! I'm assuming you are just referring to my last comment? x-hight is the hight of the lower case letters, cap hight is the hight of the upper case letters. A mask is a reference to an outline displayed in the glyph vindow. You can m...

Re: Muzitex - for music text

It looks like you have increased the stroke width by the same amount across the board? I would have preferred a little more contrast between thick and thin strokes. That is what I wanted. I wanted less distraction between thin (white) and thick (black) part of the symbols. Of course it's fine if th...

Re: Resized staff and symbol sizes

In Finale you can create one category for main staff and one for small staff. When the parts are extracted (this can't yet be done in linked parts), change the font definition of the category appropriate to the full staff size. That's a good solution for incorporating different text fonts at differ...

Re: Muzitex - for music text

Octo, I absolutely agree with your assessment of the Times font in a musical context, and think creating a semibold version is a good idea. It looks like you have increased the stroke width by the same amount across the board? I would have preferred a little more contrast between thick and thin stro...

Re: Clef design comparision

All of these symbols are beautiful, Knut. Congratulations! You could even give the slightly angled version of the treble clef as an alternative version for those who like that style. But for me, the upright version is the best. Thank you, John, and thanks again for your input! That is a good Idea.

Vaughan wrote:Very attractive font, Knut!
While the sharps are beautiful, won't they be much wider compared to naturals and flats? If that difference is too great, it can create aesthetic spacing problems.
Thank you, Vaughan!
A little wider, yes, but no more than usual, I would say.

Re: Clef design comparision

It looks much better for my eyes. I think that some width should be added on :t but remaining the boldness... Possible? All the clefs should be very close to the same width, so this is not possible without changing the widths of the other clefs as well. Mind you, the :b is a bit little bit wider be...

Re: Clef design comparision

Here's a slightly less bold version with the bass clef for comparison.

Don't know if you can tell the difference, but it's pretty much what's possible without altering all the other clefs as well.

Re: Clef design comparision

Knut: I see. So, the second one is better, but still to bold? Yes, for me, it seems better upright. As far as the actual shape, we are now discussing minute differences. It would be interesting to see the clef a little less bold and/or a little wider to compare. As I said, for me treble clefs seem ...
