Re: Half-note (Minim) notehead shape

Yes, you could swap it in (though you might have to manually set the stem anchors). TBH, even if you swapped in a glyph of a different width, the differences are so small that there is usually sufficient 'play' in any given system to accommodate them. Even if you swapped in Engraver for Bravura, you...

Re: "ad lib"bŏwing

It's in SMuFL, as an alternate, with the word "Pricope" beside it. I've no idea what that means. A composer/theorist?

I would certainly guess that it was a down/up symbol.

Re: Half-note (Minim) notehead shape

Yes. I'll try. It might depend on the optical size, e.g. large or small staff height.

Re: Frescobaldi's Fiori musicali

That's what I've been playing from. There's also a free edition, which is a bit far apart, but quite clear; though there are some wrong notes and the inner voices have been swapped about a bit. The original print is written out on four staves, so there should be no doubt about the lines. I just thou...

Re: Half-note (Minim) notehead shape

Well, I've spent some time making a few adjustments: a slight increase in width, to 329 (thus the same width as Bravura); in contrast to 320 for the black notehead. Smoothing the outer curves, and making the cut-out shape straighter at the sides, with tighter curves at the end. Shallower angle, too....

Half-note (Minim) notehead shape

Following on from recent discussions about the shape of the half-note's notehead, I thought I'd start a new thread specifically on that subject. I've compared some other fonts I have. Here is Partita , which I think was a direct scan of SCORE glyphs (hence the blocky edges); Wess's Vintage GHMA , wh...

Frescobaldi's Fiori musicali

I've been playing through Frescobaldi's Fiori musicali - keyboard music from 1635, mostly organ pieces for use in the mass.

Lovely stuff. Possibly ripe for an edition!

Re: Edition of Scarlatti K. 1

Scarlatti Sonata K. 1 My edition and the first edition appear after the commentary. Thank you for this, John. Your beams seem to be 'darker' than most (which works very well): are they different? I've recently bought a sample library of a 1738 Harpsichord, and I've just played it through on that; i...

Re: SMuFL font comparision

I'd be happy to improve the half-note in Sebastian (hopefully without upsetting the spacing, now it's been used for a while). I'd be grateful, as ever, for your thoughts; and I'll do a bit of research and comparison.

Re: Golden Age: SMuFL version

I've just published a v1.003 release: this has added some Finale-specific glyphs to reduce the number of missing glyphs in Finale's Articulation Manager. Particularly: trills with accidentals. You may be interested to know that Dorico uses combined glyphs for these; the SMuFL standard also suggests ...
