Re: Dorico v Finale advice?

Staves are used in a variety of ways in my manuscript eg the four horns may be on 1, 2, 3 or 4 staves variously arranged, eg when on 2 staves the order might be 1, 2 and 3, 4 or it might be 1, 3 and 2, 4. I would definitely tackle a smaller project first. My very first Dorico project was a pretty s...

Re: Specific chord voicings in a lead sheet

Can you show an image of either what you are trying to do, or your solution? People have been doing variants of the "suggested voicing" thing for a long time. Perhaps if you shared an image it would be clear why you need a non-standard solution to this.

MuseScore 4.1 released

MuseScore 4.1 was just released.

The new Braille notation feature in this video seemed interesting:

Has anyone ever used Braille notation for music before? Just curious how common its use is.

Re: Not much talk about Sibelius

Sib still has a couple of wonky default settings that are obvious signs to me that the user is using the defaults. The default accidental placement I find to be poorly spaced and way too close to the preceding barline: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53035539312_73851508fd_o.png Back in the augh...

Re: Not much talk about Sibelius

I gave Sibelius a try in earnest probably around 2002. (Sib 3 maybe?) The Sib marketing team was really crushing Finale's marketing around that time, painting Finale as obtuse and difficult to use, and Sib as fun and easy to use. Lots of musicians I knew were jumping over to Sib. In all honesty, I h...

Re: Not much talk about Sibelius

I've periodically done Sib work, and currently have it installed, but I've never felt comfortable with it, and it always takes me a few days to remember all the shortcuts and get back up to speed. There's one composer that still sometimes sends me Sib stuff that I just export and work on in Dorico. ...

Re: What does this symbol mean?

And then, why is a pro arranger writing a symbol that might not have seen before? You still haven't told us who the arranger or publisher is. Who is the arranger? Maybe it's a "house style" of that particular arranger or publisher that would become apparent if we could look at other examp...

Re: What does this symbol mean?

Who is the publisher or copyist? Who is the arranger? If it's someone well-known, this probably comes up in their other work, possibly with an explanation. Obviously "w. Tpts" means with Trumpets. The symbol clearly indicates some technique with the thumb, probably either simply a thumb pi...

Re: What does this symbol mean?

That has to be an arrangement of an arrangement, right? LOL! If that's not the Gil Evans "My Ship" arrangement, then whoever wrote it is stealing from Gil, but of course there's no Guitar or Piano on the original. Since there are additional instruments added, is there any kind of instructi...

Re: Ossia: Finale versus Dorico

I find ossias in Dorico to be incredibly easy. If you want the clef, just add it. If you want any sort of label, there's a setting in Layout Options / Ossias and Extra Staves.
