Re: Flat slurs

Can’t say whether it’s “supposed” to be for that. Given that there are many other “small” music symbols in that range, I didn’t think it was intended for that, especially when there’s a dedicated set cautionary clefs. In any case, what you’ve suggested is exactly what Dorico does. The glyph gClefSma...

Re: Flat slurs

You are right, and it's a bit of a trick to make the cautionary treble clef look like it's in the right place, but still be aesthetically pleasing to the eye, when technically it should have the same crosshair look around the second staff line. And I apologize, I'm not saying that I or anyone should...

Re: Flat slurs

..., yet the small clef has to resemble the large one. Not meaning to argue with you, but this has hardly been true throughout the ages of music engraving. Check almost any score published more than 50 years ago and you'll find that the small cautionary clef is often quite different than its full-s...

Re: Flat slurs

You are kind of right, it doesn't double-dip in Dorico because Dorico precedes the scaling by doing things under the covers that it doesn't for 3rd party fonts, not even Petaluma . And you are correct, the cautionary clefs are ALWAYS Bravura because they are hard-coded to use the "small" s...

I thought I had communicated this directly with Daniel some time ago, but I may have only imagined that I did lol.

Re: Flat slurs

I doubt Josh did anything on purpose here. The default functionality in Dorico is to shrink that symbol to 66% its size in the font. Why? I’ll never know, especially since the symbol it pulls in is already at the appropriate size *by design*. Actually, to make the functionality worse, if you change ...

John Ruggero wrote: 13 Feb 2021, 20:28 You said you had created this font in your OP; but then that it is Abraham Lee's work. Is it a joint effort?
He didn’t say he created it. He said he *had it* created. However, he provided the necessary specimens. So, definitely a joint effort.

Bravo! That's a huge undertaking that I can sympathize with.

Re: [puzzle] Dense page and ties

Honestly, what you've done is pretty clear to me. I'd only do some (optional) tiny tweaks to fill a bit more whitespace than looks right to me: first image, RH, top tie: move the right end a little closer to the flat second image, both bottom ties: move right ends a little closer to the stem, just a...

Re: Comparison of music text fonts

That is a good start. When I first encountered Nepomuk, I did the same kind of thing, by changing its "weight", but that's not quite the same as making it "bold", even though it is visually more black. Increasing the weight is a great way to improve a typeface's optical presence ...
