From Durand's edition of "Rondes de Printemps".
Interesting that omitting the quarter rest is very strict and forced.
ADD EDIT: I mean, omitting the quarter dot rest.

Good to know!
In my scores the default Engraver font looks bad, but in your scores it looks always very good, I am not sure why!

Re: How to Write for PERCUSSION by Samuel Z. Solomon
I have ordered this new edition (the Second) and received it recently.
As stated above, some music examples are far from being "the state of engraving art", but the book for itself is definitely EXTREMELY useful. Any composer, editor, engraver or copyist should have it. Order it now.

It is a custom font made by a friend of mine. Use symbols 1, 2, 3 and 4 to get different waving sizes. Let me know if it works.

Another way in using grace notes, 100 years after Ravel, in Zivkovic's (well, mine) "On the Guarding of the Heart":

If you are coming from the visual arts, and have a very good knowledge in music theory or composition, it might happen that you will do very good music in the future. Many aspects of composing is "visualisation" of the sound (yet NOT in positivistic way, rather metaphysical!). ...and I'm s...

Re: Single note-measure placement
Is the excessive shift to the right caused by the repeat-ties? They seem to be present in both images, and although one could argue for how long those ties should be (I think they're fine), I wonder if the engravers would have placed them at the same position in the bar had there NOT been any repea...

p.s. otherwise, just removing these slashes makes the perfect sense for me for the moment.
