Re: Pencils for music

Where have you bought this pencil case? It is really great! It's a Derwent pencil wrap. This is it on Amazon UK (does the link work in Sweden?) http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000P6YNHK?keywords=derwent%20pencil%20case&qid=1450352981&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1 . I don't possess the slightly...

Very much, it's a good, clean and efficient pencil eraser - and I also like the Faber-Castell Trio sharpener (the grey triangle-sided object in the picture), which is easy to take with you, just as quick as fancy desk-mounted sharpeners, AND it gives a better result.

Re: Pencils for music

I do not like the Staedtler Tradition as I found the leads keep on breaking when sharpening. Otherwise a good quality B2 or B3. I find that on average in each box of 12 Staedtler Tradition 3B there are 2 individual pencils whose leads keep breaking when being sharpened. As soon as this happens for ...

Re: Various Line Settings

I've just had laser-printed to both B4 & A4 the Act I draft of a piece I'm working on (although the definitive conductor's full score might need to be A3). I've applied my own approximation of the various line settings listed in this thread (and also the suggested hairpin opening). To my compose...

Re: Strange notation in Ravel

My own experience with harpists has been along the lines that they are glad I thought the pedalling through, but would I mind if they made a few changes to my pedalling.

Re: Strange notation in Ravel

The double stemming in the harp part of Ravel's Introduction and Allegro looks like right and left hand indications to me … … One should think so, but if that is the case, some of the distribution between hands seems pretty impractical to me … … Bear in mind that a) although the little finger is no...

Re: Various Line Settings

Although I, as a mere composer, find these discussions deeply fascinating, following them does sometimes seem a bit like trying to fathom quantum physics. Question: how much of this detail is it reasonable for a composer to know, assuming that at least some of his own 'engraving' is likely to be put...

Re: Flat slurs

This would definitely be useful in many situations if it were easier to achieve in Finale/Sibelius than seems to be the case at present.
