più and meno as dynamic modifers

I presume, following Italian, that 'più piano' is quieter than piano, and thus 'meno piano' is louder; and the same is true for 'molto piano'. I'm looking for a 'warmer mezzopiano than we've just had' instruction. So più mp wouldn't be right, and meno mp seems counter-intuitive and open to rehearsal...

Re: Slurs and ties coinciding

I would favour the slurs starting slightly earlier and finishing later than the tie, making the slur bigger, not making the tie smaller.

Re: Right to left music

I guess there will inevitably be compromises using symbols designed for LTR the other way round.

Re: Right to left music

I've got a working facsimile. Essentially, I created custom 'mirror' noteheads, and switch the stem positions. Then I exported to a graphics editor, and flipped the whole thing. Then flipped clefs, accidentals and quaver flags back again! image.jpeg Didn't notice the F clefs dots, though! Good spot.

Right to left music

Shamelessly stolen from Twitter, but I saw this. It's from the hymnal in St George's Anglican Cathedral in Jerusalem.

I wonder what software they used for that!

I've seen people suggest using Finale, by turning the page upside down, and using upside-down symbols!

Could you help me with some examples for ties engraving rules?
Here's a previous thread with some Sibelius slur settings and discussions about them.

November 2 update

There's an update to the November 2 font. The ottava numerals on clefs are now larger and more legible, and there are many new glyphs. If you've already purchased it, you should be able to re-download it from the KLEMM website, using the link and login details in your purchase email. New version is ...

Re: Encore back from the dead

Overture uses a SMuFL-ised Sonata, called AloisenU. I'd expect a new version of Encore to use a SMuFL font; though transitioning legacy documents would require significant work.

Re: Encore back from the dead

It seems like many people are aware that the available notation software isn't meeting everyone's needs. Many people? What do you base that on? I doubt that any software (of any kind) meets everyone's needs. There's a balance between the needs it fulfils, and the needs it doesn't. I may be willing ...

Encore back from the dead

Don Williams seems to have bought back the rights to Encore, and will be releasing a new version in the Autumn. https://passportmusic.com I'm not sure what that means for Overture, his other notation app. We've discussed previously how the number of notation apps currently in development is surprisi...
