Re: Multiple Parts on Single Page

Elgar's Enigma Variations are written in the 2 parts/1 page/2 staves format. Page turns are not good.

Re: Funny notations 😁

I'll submit one of my own... took me a while on this one! (still hate the shape of the final slur)

Preferred book binders?

Hi folks, I'm getting ready for my latest work to be printed and bound at my usual service. I've dedicated this piece to the soloist and would love to give her a deluxe bound edition (think leather-bound hardback...) of the score. Does anyone know of, or have used any print houses/publishers that wo...

Software tips?

So I finally upgraded (?) to Finale 26.2. Every time I get a new version of Finale I create an updated Document Style that contains all the fonts, shapes, settings, etc. that I prefer.

Does anyone have any tips on how to do this without laboriously checking every setting?

Re: Dorico 3.5 released!

Automatically, not having to do the workaround of resizing the glyph.

More realistically, what I'm seeing in effect is "My ignorance is as good as your knowledge."

Some of the engraving I've seen makes me seriously wonder if the user has ever played music before.

Re: Effect of Notation process on engraving rules

If anything, digital tools have allowed a lot of terrible, terrible engraving to proliferate. The power is there for it to be great engraving, but that requires actual knowledge, skill, and experience; it's not enough for the software to be intelligent, the user has to have a few cells to rub togeth...

Mostly due to the possibility of previously completed work being completely disrupted/destroyed if opened or updated in newer versions.

Re: Annual Notation Software Survey

I have to agree with Octo - I haven't seen any large scores coming out of Dorico. Last time I tested Dorico, after 32 measures of a relatively simple quartet of single line instruments there were far too many basic notational errors that I simply could not overlook. Having to repeatedly fix really b...
