Re: Slurs Ugly or necessary?
Scores with this format (i.e., hymnnals) do tend to bend the rules a bit on this, but for a couple of useful reasons. Most folks who sing these are not professionals and need less busy notation. Also, but kind of the same reason, since music like this is also what is used for the accompaniment, the ...

Re: Slurs crashing with alterations
Yep, as long as it’s still absolutely clear what the accidental is and what the symbol crossing through it is, I have no problem with the occasional crossing.

Re: MuseScore 4 Beam Angles
Agreed, John. FWIW, here's what the same passage looks like with the staff lines hidden behind the beams, which I am really liking: beaming-with-staff-lines-removed-behind-beams.png In a way, since our eyes are getting more used to not beaming strategies that keep staff lines from appearing behind b...

Re: MuseScore 4 Beam Angles
Great thoughts, John. I think your settings have one other advantage over some of these other defaults and that is thicker beams/smaller beam-gaps. I noticed the same thing in some older printed scores I saw last night. The slightly thicker beams seem to make the crossing staff lines to be less prom...

Re: MuseScore 4 Beam Angles
This is a very interesting example, John. For what it's worth, I think we've overlooked an engraving style that makes the Peters edition more visually clean than it should be under normal circumstances. To illustrate, if you re-enter the line with the Peters beams in the same place, you'll notice th...

Re: Slurs crashing with alterations
I have no problem with slurs crossing through the stem of the flat. In fact, I find the "whiteout" style in the top two examples more visually distracting. I think it's because the slur is relatively short that it kind of looks like a pair of articulations rather than a broken slur. Others...

Re: Two November 2 issues
Actually, the flag crosses all the way through the dot where it is currently positioned. Look very close.
FWIW, you can adjust the symbol position in the symbol editor, but that’s not really the ideal solution.

Re: Engraving Stenhammars Interlude from Cantata The Song (Sången)
I totally understand your concerns for tweaking things in LP. I've used it for a while now, myself. Sounds like you've got a great application to use LP! Here are some suggestions for the adjustments recommended, which can easily be incorporated into any automated code since there are things you can...

Re: Engraving Stenhammars Interlude from Cantata The Song (Sången)
The only additional thing I'd generally recommend, but also as a bit of a solution to John's #3 issue, is to vertically align the dynamics rather than have them attached directly to notes. That would be a bit more aesthetic and give some of the air the John referred to, at least in the part scores. ...
