Re: Composers vs Engravers: Stems and Slurs part 5
Ah... Now I understand, OCTO. The slur appears to follow the triplet line. What a good point. The very thing that I thought was so good about the S slur, the room provided by the shape of the triplet melody, is actually a negative. Back to the drawing board. I'll see what I can do with the French ed...

Re: Recommended books
Welcome, mosteo. I hope that you will be a frequent contributor. The reference books that I use: The Art of Music Engraving and Processing by Ted Ross Behind Bars by Elaine Gould But far more important to me are my years as a practical musician, my years of apprenticeship as a hand copyist with Arno...

Re: Composers vs Engravers: Stems and Slurs part 5
Thanks, David. I forgot to remove the display colors. Here it is in black and white: Chopin S slur no color.jpg So you both do not like the solution in the first English edition? Or is it just my slur that you don't like? OCTO., I didn't understand what you meant by "Chopin's MS" and also ...

Composers vs Engravers: Stems and Slurs part 5
An interesting quasi-S-shaped slur from the copyist's autograph of Chopin's Etude op 25 no 10: Chopin Slurs.jpg The first French edition: Chopin S slur French.jpg The first German edition and most modern editions: Chopin S slur German.jpg The first English edition: Chopin S slur English.jpg Chopin w...

Re: 3 beaming choices
Fred, thanks for the example from Gould. While I generally agree with her, here I disagree with her appraisal of "elegance" in the second example on page 165. The first line with the broken secondary beams looks fussy, unnatural and disjointed, and the rhythm in the third measure is a nigh...

Re: Feature Request Forum at MM
I can well understand serious problems with complex scores, since one runs into problems even with simple ones. In any case, I have resolved to report my problems to MM as they occur and reinforce comments from others about their issues. If everyone would do this, it might have an effect.

Re: Feature Request Forum at MM
OCTO. I am sorry about your previous bad experience and present disillusionment with Finale. Finale is working well for me because of the help received here and the MM forum, and I am going to operate under the assumption that MM is interested in user input until proven wrong. After all, what is the...
