Re: Tantacrul Dorico video
I took Tantacrul's thesis to be that Dorico doesn't give a new user a smooth initial impression, and since first impressions count for many, it is in Dorico's best interest to improve this situation. Yes, but not necessarily. I had been using Finale for a decade when Dorico came out and I got the h...

Re: Tantacrul Dorico video
And when a UX designer with years of music notation software experience misses key elements in a program after 8 months of study and use, one wonders whose fault that really is. He can only have missed these things if he deliberately chose not to read the manuals or ask for help. Seriously, would a...

Re: Metrico: Font for metric equations
It does work for me in LibreOffice (6.3.4 on Manjaro Linux). It just doesn’t have quarter triplets (3qqq), only a single quarter triplet (3q) and eighth triplets (3eee). The display in LibreOffice is not optimal (it is cut off above the regular line height) but print preview, pdf export and print a...

Re: Community creates a textual font
Actually this task is much harder than what I expected. Any suggestions how to embolden a font properly is welcome. There’s a reason why you can get a university degree in type design. Don’t expect Fontforge’s automatic weight conversion do get you anywhere near a usable result. Properly changing t...

Re: Very Short Octave Sign Rant
75 / 25 % looks about right to me.
I'm definitely not a fan of those solid hooks. They look awkward at best. (Why don't we start using differently dashed or dotted staff lines, too? With a bold solid middle line. That should improve orientation...)

Re: Very Short Octave Sign Rant
Florian, the Dorico is excellent and has a nice vertical, but what does the default look like? Unfortunately I can’t show you because that would mean to reset ALL my engraving options to the default — unless I want to do some surgery on the user data xmls for which I don’t have time. But I think it...

Re: Very Short Octave Sign Rant
You can get pretty close by changing three engraving options and saving them as default in Dorico:
For what it’s worth, I hardly ever used Finale’s built-in octave lines. I had my own.
Unfortunately, it’s still impossible to get the vertical position of the line right. Oh well...For what it’s worth, I hardly ever used Finale’s built-in octave lines. I had my own.

A matter of taste? I would center the dots above the stems.

Re: New font for figured bass: Figurato
A quick update: The normal version of Figurato should work fine with Dorico 3. There’s no need to use FiguratoMac any longer if you’ve upgraded.
