Re: [Lilypond] Numerous Questions & Thoughts

Hi all, Actually all of my scores at http://www.yatesguitar.com are made with Finale 2007. There are a lot of tweaks to the settings and the use of custom characters. Richard, do I remember that you used to use Graphire or is my memory completely gone? I'm looking at my copy of your very nice "...

Re: [Lilypond] Numerous Questions & Thoughts

It is certainly a shame if it is languishing when it could become another open source product. Agreed. The developer could also release a lite version as open source and charge for a full-featured version. The open-source version might attract enough people to develop a user base and generate custo...

Re: [Lilypond] Numerous Questions & Thoughts

More comments from users of Graphire would certainly be welcome. Perhaps another thread? I would love to try it, because it sounds free and instinctive like hand copying, but the high price is prohibitive, especially with Dorico impending. I've heard good things about Music Press too, but wonder if...

What program do TV and film people use?

Fred makes a good point in the Steinberg Dorico thread about functionality necessary in the initial release to give a good first impression: > By "professional users" I'm guessing you mean professional copyists, composers, and publishers who never do any jazz, commercial, pop orchestra, Br...

Finale v. 1 actually had pretty good functionality, but it was insanely difficult to use.

[ANN] Seven Music Notation Programs

About ten years ago a group of us decided to do a comparison of the most popular notation programs, to see how each program looked in print. Although one program's output can be made to look much like another's, some aspects of that are easier to do, and it’s interesting how the personality of the p...

Re: Why SCORE is so good, an opinion

As info, I asked the author about WinScore -- whether it was simply a port to Windows, or whether functionality had been changed or added. He said: WinScore is, in my opinion, not suitable for production work -- it is filled with bugs, missing functionality, and generally a disaster -- though techni...
