Re: Beauty in a digitalised world of music copying

Copyists proficient in SCORE claim that it is faster than any of its competitors.

Re: Copyright question (Schoenberg Serenade).

Thank you for correcting me on Mexico. Do you hear a lot about enforcement down there?

I was employed with a Mexican orchestra some years ago. I would say most definitely *not*. Many times we performed from illegal photocopies.

I disagree with this. You should always be able to see the middle of the measure. A dotted half rest would obscure that.

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

When using the new divisi feature, Dorico cannot add sub-brackets to, say, a divided Violin 1 section. Daniel Spreadbury has acknowledged this to me (in a comment on the Scoring Notes blog).

This is one area where Finale outshines both Sibelius and Dorico.

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

This really looks very good to me.

When Dorico allows for more flexibility with brackets and sub-brackets, it will also become my first choice.

Waiting for the flame war on clef design...

Re: "Library" vs "Performance" editions

Perhaps the OP meant critical vs. practical performing edition?

Re: Have reprints been getting worse?

Part of the problem is that (Kalmus, at least) has digitized their entire collection and now most titles are print-on-demand. At first, they were printed at a very low resolution until many orchestra librarians complained. It's a bit better now, but still not as sharp as the older prints.

Re: Most popular engraving programs?

I was under the impression that SCORE does not use fonts for any musical symbols (perhaps excepting dynamics?), but is entirely vector based. I suppose you can alter settings that affect the shape of the notes and other symbols. It's really amazing (to me, anyway) that the the application that almos...

Re: [WORKBENCH] Brahms Op. 119, No. 1

I don't know about the software, but I agree that this is really third rate work, both in terms of typography and engraving. I've seen enough similarly bad examples to know that there is no reason (anymore) to expect high quality engraving from Urtext editions. Hear, hear! I just bought orchestral ...

That was my guess as well.
