Re: Xenakis

After all of this very interesting discussion, I looked through the two original online scores again, admittedly not in great depth, but enough to get a feel for them, I think. They are clear and seem to be the way the composer wanted them to be. The notation is idiosyncratic but reflects the compo...

Re: Xenakis

I see that one of these pieces, Mists , was written for Roger Woodward. I met him in the late 1960s or early 1970s. He seemed more than intense, but was clearly brilliant both pianistically and musically. Yes, I met him when I was preparing material for Dominic Muldowney's Piano Concerto in the ear...

Re: Xenakis

There are clearly errors in the hand written first version. Until I've seen the ms and discussed with the editor, how we will resolve the errors is still unknown. Of course the right hand cannot span 2 octaves. There may be an octave missing, or the 15 may be an 8va...

Re: Xenakis

We are making anew edition. For now I am entering the data as per the original. I have not yet seen/heard what the editor intends, nor have I yet seen the ms. I have a fair list of questions for the editor which may or may not duplicate his own thoughts. Your discussion is interesting, and I note th...

Re: Xenakis

If only Xenakis had used 2/4 instead of 4/4! Just an idea! Why not to use 2/4 or even 1/4 and hide bar-lines if you would to split staff? Emphasizing on IF YOU WOULD... do you mean split one beat off bar 113, or do you mean make 112 a full system? Split the last beat off bar 113. :?: :?: Sor...

Re: RE: Re: Xenakis

Just as I was beginning to think 4 staves would be enough... (all previous caveats apply) There are still some spacing issues to deal with here, I know. Hmmm... sorry for asking, if I understand correctly, can't these extra three staffs be moved to the next system? do you mean split one beat off ba...

Re: Xenakis

B, without a shadow of a doubt. I see no benefit in reading and only potential disorientation in A. In my experience, measures are almost always split in half in modern times, which limits them to binary compound meters. This is generally for the best. In the 18th and early 19th centuries, measures...
