Typesetting em dashes in lyrics - best solution?

I've been working on typesetting a hymn using a text from Newman's Verses on Various Occasions, which (unusually for a hymn text) uses full dashes, even over lines (for example, the first line of verse 2). I've struggled to typeset this properly and have arrived at what I thought was the obvious sol...

Re: A modern looking score in 2018?

That font looks like something out of a music book for 5-year-olds, and it makes Opus look like the heaviest thing on the block.

Re: A modern looking score in 2018?

If you mean with "everywhere else in music" you mean the vast majority of printed music scores then of course I agree completely with you that anything different from what is used everywhere will first look different and it can indeed lead to some people shouting "How on earth do you...

Re: A modern looking score in 2018?

Probably the closest we've gotten to that style are the Novello "block" dynamic marks - which I don't feel particularly intrude on the readibility of the score. Example: http://ks.petruccimusiclibrary.org/files/imglnks/usimg/5/54/IMSLP45059-PMLP07276-Elgar-Enigma.Oboe.pdf (Also the titling...

Re: A modern looking score in 2018?

Excluding the use of sans serif text font from the beginning as OCTO wrote, is for me difficult to understand and not an option for me. Because all music fonts are serif and mixing a sans-serif in (barring the titling and front matter, as Schott does) doesn't work stylistically. Vienna/Scorlatti ar...

Re: A modern looking score in 2018?

I think there were two separate questions here: the purely aesthetic design of the items on the page, and the underlying layout. Regarding the former, this presents some difficulty, as many "modern design elements" (razor-thin line weights and edges, sharp angles, varying soft colours) are...

New classic typeface

I was browsing MTF's website and found this gem that wasn't there last time I checked: https://www.musictypefoundry.com/product/roman-ionic

It looks excellent for music use and similar to that used by at least Durand in the past.

Is that Knut's music typeface & engraving?

Re: [puzzle] Two voices in one staff

The barlines give it away as LP. I'm intrigued by the clef, though - it looks better than the default by miles but still looks good with the rest of the default font.

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

For what you do, it looks that it would suit you well. Why not, if you work alone in your edition. Also, your 'example' score in Dorico looks more like "printed" - in a positive meaning. The thing I hear often about Dorico is that it "looks" pleasant. I wonder why? My guessing i...

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

I still feel like the "Sibelius"-style slurs and ties curve too much near the ends. LP has the same issue by default, albeit a bit less pronounced.
