Re: Copyright question (Schoenberg Serenade).

IMSLP is a site that tries very hard to respect the various international and country treaties and laws regarding copyright. By far, the US is the worst offender for the life of copyright... Incorrect. It's Mexico @ 100 years https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries%27_copyright_lengths ... ...

Re: Affinity Publisher Public Beta

FWIW: I'm really excited about this program. Along with Affinity, Dorico and other similar product lines have been bringing publishing and layout into the 20th century. I really enjoy Designer, and I have heard wondrous things about Photo. Here's to finally getting into the 21st Century with modern ...

Re: Copyright question (Schoenberg Serenade).

So, even though you own a copy of the work, to download a copy scanned from a website that is not private storage of your materials means that you are effectively downloading an illegal copy of that work. Someone else scanned that work from their own copy and provided a means for you to download it...

Re: Copyright question (Schoenberg Serenade).

You must own the work and make the copy yourself, so long as you do not distribute it. If I understand you correctly, DatOrganistTho, instead of scanning some copyrighted sheet music that I own so that I can have access to it on a computer, I can legally download it here in the USA from IMSLP even ...

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

With Dorico 2, I started a project that I've always to try, but now I feel comfortable doing it in a notation program. It took me roughly 45 minutes to input all of the information here. There have been no edits to layout, flow, collisions, spelling, etc. There are a few things that are wonky that I...

Re: Academic Research on Notation

Not so much the history of western notation but rather the history of typesetting standards. Does that make sense? "The great thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from." ;) Ted Ross's book, coupled with House Style Guides from various publishing houses, would be a goo...

Re: Academic Research on Notation

In addition to the above mentioned books, you may find "The Printed Note: 500 Years of Music Printing and Engraving" by A. Beverly Barksdale useful too. It was originally printed in 1957 as a "textbook-catalog" to accompany an exhibition at the Toledo Museum of Art. (I have the ...

Re: Academic Research on Notation

What sort of research exactly? Do you mean the History of notation? Or computer representation of notation? Or something else? There is a huge wealth of research into historical forms and the development of Western notation (and I dare say other types). I'd be surprised if you couldn't find a consi...

Academic Research on Notation

Has there been any academic research regarding music notation to this date that anyone knows of? I'm looking into a few sources, but I would like to know if any of you might know of something tucked away somewhere.

Re: Copyright question (Schoenberg Serenade).

You must own the work and make the copy yourself, so long as you do not distribute it. Grabbing it off of someplace else if it is not your own is technically illegal (if you live in the USA).
