Re: Orchestra Seating Brass/WW

It varies. Usually for trumpets and trombones the first trombone and the first trumpet sit next to one another if they are spread out in a line. If trombones are behind trumpets, then the first trombone should be directly behind the first trumpet and both nearer the centre than the the second and th...

Re: Dorico cross-grade promotion

I think this one computer only arrangement might be the deal breaker for me. I had thought of taking up the cross-grade offer to see how I got on, but I don't think this old man would cope at all well with the potential hassle if things went awry but I didn't have in on two computers. Read on only i...

Re: Dorico cross-grade promotion

Is it possible to have Dorico running on two computers simultaneously without extra cost? I often work on two for practical reasons related to heating my house in winter &c. Or does Dorico still have restrictions in this respect?

Re: Different notations - Bach - Cello

2 is the one familiar to me. I played the cello in adolescence (until the trombone took precedence) and as far as I remember the only editions that were available in the UK in the 1950s looked like No 2. It seems identical to the Bach-Gesellschaft edition I have on my shelves here now, but because i...

Re: Multiple Parts on Single Page

Please: never ask trombones to share a stand (two copies of a double part can be OK, but is not often preferred).

Re: A Difficult Beethoven Measure

As a result of reading your original post this morning, I listened to the 1978(?) Brendel CD (originally LP I think) of this sonata. It really set me up for the day: such humour, such vigour, such - everything!

I wouldn't like to specify exactly what it is Brendel does with this bar.

Re: Notation program...

The more I learn about Dorico, the more I wish it had been around when I started computer typesetting of music (in 2000 or 2001). However, as I've probably said here ad nauseam, it probably won't be worth my trying to make the change at my age (79).

I suspect Emilia Marty (or Makropulos). She keeps the initials E M for all her many guises.

Re: Errors in Janacek?

Might the X be related to the action or staging rather than to the music? I don't have a copy of the score and the new critical edition is around €300…
