Re: Dorico 1.2 released

I have to say that in spite of certain limitations, the new implementation in 1.2 is incredibly impressive. Even if I can't use Dorico yet for more challenging engraving projects, the functionality is now thorough enough to handle simpler tasks with a minimal amount of effort. Dorico is still a you...

Re: [WORKBENCH] Brahms Op. 119, No. 1

I’ve been avoiding to use Bärenreiter for years now... as much as possible, that is. I find most of the newer editions downright ugly. Thanks for posting that link, liuscorne. I couldn’t help smiling when I saw the first pages of the National Edition. I had the impression of looking at the result of...

I have one too, and I'm not quite sure how it works either. :( :) But I would offer to look into it and create that repository. Unless someone else is experienced with that kind of thing..?

Re: A case for slab serifs in music

That is a beautiful music font, liuscorne!
Knut, congratulations! This must have been a huge amount of work... a set of beautiful text fonts that work very well with your music font. I like the italics especially! And that G-clef is a miraculous fusion of balance and character.

Re: Community creates a textual font

Shall we agree that Old Standard is a starting point? Than, where to find a SIL license? Perhaps here: https://fontlibrary.org/en/font/old-standard ?? How to be sure that the license is valid? I would agree. I've taken a closer look at Old Standard and I think now that it's an excellent starting po...

Re: Community creates a textual font

Old Standard, on the other hand, looks right – granted that it is too thin and has too much contrast in its current form. But I would have thought that this could be fixed much more easily than making Century Schoolbook more condensed. But I might be wrong. You're probably right that it would be ea...

Re: Community creates a textual font

OCTO, this is a very interesting idea. I’d love to contribute! I worked on a similar project on my own some years ago, but I gave it up in the end because I didn’t have enough time. (Odod, it’s nice to hear that somebody actually found and uses Nepomuk, even in it’s far from finished state!) Judging...

Re: Slurs again

John, I strongly agree with your reasoning. A, B and C each imply a different musical (technical) gesture. At first sight I would probably play them differently without being fully aware of it. At this point music notation is more than an abstract representation of sounds in time. It speaks directly...

Re: Case of the Disappearing Slur

Yes, I see what you mean. After comparing a few pages with Dorico, Finale and beautifully cut slurs in earnest I must admit that Dorico's slurs are not generally closer to the 'original'. What's more, their more 'interesting' (less balanced) shape becomes annoying after a while even for flat and sym...

Re: Case of the Disappearing Slur

I see, Knut. I misunderstood you then, sorry about that. It's interesting to hear that you dislike the basic slur shape in Dorico, because this is something I liked very much from the start. I think in many cases it looks more like hand cut slurs than the perfectly tapered shapes of Finale slurs. I ...
