Re: My current Sibelius slur settings
I really like those slurs too, and I agree with Johns comments about their general similarity to Finale's slurs, their superiority to Dorico's slurs and the necessity for an increased arch on the steep slur in the middle. All in all, these slurs seem a little bit too flat to me, and perhaps a tiny b...

Re: Henle Blog and App
I finally wrote a post in your support as well, although it perhaps served more as a response to the nonsensical digital vs. analogue analogy than as a very constructive response to Henle's computer engraving. I may have something more useful to say, though, if the discussion carries on.

Re: Finale or Sibelius
I'm sorry to hear that upgrading to Finale 25 hasn't remedied your speed issues. Aside from experimenting with alterations of your system to root out any problem sources, it's difficult to give good recommendations on how to proceed. I would firstly contact MakeMusic to hear if they can shed som lig...

Re: Dorico 1.2 released
On the topic of Dorico's slurs, especially the basic slur shape – Daniel Spreadbury allowed me to cite him from an email he wrote to me today: We do know about this, of course, and it's a consequence of drawing the slur with two lines: a fixed width "skeleton" line and a tapered path over...

Re: Musicwriter - in use throughout the world
When I was a student in NYC, I spent several weeks engraving on one of those for a small choral music publisher. They were happy to give me one-on-one instruction, since so few people knew how to use one. Coordinating music and text was harrowing. I eventually quit to have more time for piano pract...

Re: Font Attempt
Very nice, OCTO! I like the the size of the black notehead, although as Schoenbergian points out, it might be a bit too slight fore some, so it's worth experimenting a bit with the size and angle. Also, it looks to me as though you've tried to make it more 'authentic' by making a slight dent in bott...

Re: Engraving in MuseScore
This looks very good to me as a first pass. It is in need of some adjustments, but I'm guessing you'll come back to that. Watch out, though, for the faulty kerning between the a and t in spicatissimo . I'm also not entirely sure what is meant by the eight-notes in parenthesis, as long as they aren't...

Re: Dorico 1.2 released
I have to say that in spite of certain limitations, the new implementation in 1.2 is incredibly impressive. Even if I can't use Dorico yet for more challenging engraving projects, the functionality is now thorough enough to handle simpler tasks with a minimal amount of effort. Dorico is still a youn...

Re: Notatio members meeting
It was a wonderful meeting indeed! I would strongly suggest organising such a meeting if you live fairly close to each other or are travelling. It's so nice and easy to become friends in real life when you have as much in common as most of us have. And please drop me a line if anyone of you are trav...
