Re: Progressive correction in op. 54
Internal evidence is heavily used in textual criticism. Only, texts can count on “external” evidence which in music is often elusive. I’d say the relative weight (as opposed to absolute) of internal and external evidence can be different between texts and music. As for the principles, I don’t know. ...

Re: Progressive correction in op. 54
John, I am honoured by your interest. I’ll try but can’t be sure I will be able to convey all the nuances of this complex matter as English is not my primary language (Italian is). So, sorry for errors and obscurities and please feel free to point out and ask for clarifications. Definitions. The con...

Re: Progressive correction in op. 54
John, I like very much your posts on Beethoven, I don’t jump in the conversations because I am a very scarce connoisseur of Beethoven. Things like the “espressivo” you explained us are the reason why I advocate critical editions as opposed to “urtext”. In fact the concept of urtext is plainly reject...

Re: Two November 2 issues
Somehow the dot glyph is not centered: It should be centered in the font itself in order to be centered in the space. Hi NorFonts, that’s what I was thinking too. Then I noticed that if I only changed the music font without loading the whole November house style (which the font installer installs a...

Re: Slurs crashing with alterations
Thanks very much all. It's Sibelius with November font. Sibelius uses the same overall settings for both the slurs on appoggiaturas and on normal-sized noteheads. I seem to see the example by tisimst has thinner slurs when on appoggiaturas, am I wrong? Or maybe thay are only longer and so they seem ...

Slurs crashing with alterations
May I ask you a comment on this? I have slurs crashing with alterations. I tried moving up the slur, or deforming it to bypass the alteration, but at last here is what I came to. What do you think? I only rarely have seen this solution in printed music. Screenshot 2022-12-16 alle 16.31.00.png Screen...

Re: Two November 2 issues
in your images it gives me the distinct impression that the dot is too high up in the space, too close to the upper staff line. could this be a minor defect in the font? What a sharp eye, Michael! I never noticed this but it's just as you say: the augmentation dots are too high in the space. Screen...

Re: Two November 2 issues
Yes in Sibelius it's possible to set the dot's distance from the notehead, both on a global and individual basis. I was just wondering why this issue is not handled automatically. As I don't like the dot to be too far from the notehead, I'd get a double approach: 1. lightly move the dot on the right...

Re: The other November 2 issue
I should have checked before posting, sorry. Forget my post. In the documentation I overlooked this passage: Sibelius 6, 7, 7.5 and up, Mac only The compatibility is not as optimal as with Dorico or Finale 2014, but there are workable solutions. In a way, the situation is similar to pre-2012 Finale ...

The other November 2 issue
Here is my second issue with November 2. Sibelius Ultimate on Mac. If I go on Text/Format/click the lower right square, I get this: Screenshot 2022-12-10 alle 19.33.13.png It's in Italian, but I guess you can understand. Now, If I select November 2 as my main music font and click Ok, and I re-click ...
