Re: [puzzle] A Breve Problem
The larger except shows that the accented voice in half notes is a middle voice, and for this reason I vote for Knut's solution with the downward stems since it is very common for a moving middle voice to have down stems in an upper staff even if there is a collective down or up stem preceeding. Th...

Re: [puzzle] A Breve Problem
Shouldn't there be either a sharp or a precautionary natural before the first F in the top staff? That would have impact on the spacing in some versions. Whether there should be a precautionary natural before the E in the top staff is a question that also came up in the Brahms op 119 no 1 thread. J...

Re: [puzzle] A Breve Problem
If your layer distribution isn't fixed, I would consider flipping the stems of the r.h. half notes, which would make the spacing of the layers more even, without the risk of collisions. I'm actually not entirely sure that the result would constitute an acceptable note alignment, but it looks OK to ...

Re: [puzzle] A Breve Problem
The font I'm using is Cadence. :) Our own @tisimst made that font. ;) Which is now called MTF-Cadence as I shift directions to a different online store. More details soon about that (in another thread of course). Does the MTF stand for Metafont?!?!? Meaning you'll have them scaled properly at diffe...

Re: [puzzle] A Breve Problem
I might go for open ties in this situation, especially if they're used elsewhere in the score. Otherwise, I really don't see any reason to keep the ties that flat. A bit more arc might make placement of the marcatos easier. In any case, I think you need to tweak a combination of elements (spacing, ...

Re: [puzzle] A Breve Problem
I am not sure if this accent is allowable to be placed on the staff line (I think not), but here is my option: shot 6.jpg BTW, what font do you use? Thanks! I like that option too. Is it okay to have the half-notes not match up between the staves? That was also part of the problem. The font I'm usi...

[puzzle] A Breve Problem
See below.
I've mocked it up crude, and don't intend to leave it this way. Any way you can advise? Or is this a solution for open ties?

Re: How Much Would You Charge?
When I started in professional copying in NYC in the early 1990s my friend advised me to charge by the page. $10~30/page depending on the complexity of the page; double the page rate for transcription by ear. Unfortunately the market has changed so much that I haven’t been able to carry this policy...

Re: Alignment of (double) whole notes
I think at this point it is important to consider a parallel problem in word typesetting. Perhaps you do not see center aligned notes of this kind because of the same reasons you don't see books typeset in center justification: it's just hard to read over and over. Center justification being nice fo...
