Re: Hairpin left edge vs. accidentals

I would use the first.

The second, if at all, only if it's the second part of a hairpin across a system break. Or if you want to imply the feeling that the diminuendo begins earlier.

Re: New to engraving...am I on the right track?

Hyphenation should be done to dictionary word divisions, usually split along etymological and phonetic grounds. Consonants should NEVER be placed "where they sound", which is a hideous trend in recent years. Jucio Brennan's hyphenator is not infallible, though it seems to get it right her...

Re: New to engraving...am I on the right track?

I agree with John, you are definitely on the right track! In addition to what John and Ben have said: Have you considered moving lyrics that belong to the Sopranos only above the staff (and below the staff for the Basses after B)? I think that could improve clarity. The first bar looks a bit strange...

Re: Notation of the repetition across multiple tempi changes

John, that's also how I understand OCTO's description. I think it depends on several things. Are the lines played by single players or by multiple players at the same time? In the latter case: will the players be close to each other or on different sides of the orchestra? Is the rhythmic structure s...

Re: Simple syncopation notation

Look how Brahms notates alternating notes between the pianist's hands in his second piano concerto! He doesn't even bother to show the half bar in the right hand once the pattern is established.

Re: Typesetting em dashes in lyrics - best solution?

Coming a bit late here… I agree with liuscorne, and I'd probably prefer to center the em dashes between the surrounding words. They are long enough to be easily discerned from hyphens. I just wanted to add that in any case I would make sure the syllables or words are centered under the notes and not...

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

Are you saying if I suddenly have 3 solo violins with their own staves and a gli altri stave, I can't bracket the 3 solos? No indeed, you can't. Your 3 solo violins and the gli altri staff and (!) the second violins will all be bracketed together just because they're all playing the same instrument...

Yes. The copy protection scheme hasn't changed.

Re: Dorico Pro 2 released

So do I! I'm currently reengraving a classical score and parts (Brahms Haydn variations) for my own practical purposes and the way everything just falls into place astonishes me again and again. I get a beautiful score that looks warmer and more balanced than every computer engraved edition of the v...

Completely independent time signatures (at least visually), completely independent bar-lines (at least visually)?
What exactly do you mean?
