To much new-age German perfection.
I agree with you, John.

Re: RE: Re: Different slur thickness and centring

OCTO. wrote In my Finale settings I added extra thickness to the right side of a slur. Sorry, OCTO. I took that to mean that you changed the settings so that the right side was thicker. Was that a typo? It did start out looking thicker on the left. Oh yes, I see it now. I mean I added on the LEFT S...

Re: RE: Re: Different slur thickness and centring

Just to clarify, OCTO. Your original settings had the greater thickness on the left side. Here it is on the right side. Considering that Finale only allows one setting for a file, do you use a different setting for each file? It is on the left side here as well. I just edited the same measure. I ca...

Re: RE: Re: Different slur thickness and centring

Very interesting! But do you really need to overstate the boldness on one side to achieve this effect? It seems to me that this can just as easily be achieved with symmetrical thickness, since adjusting the center point is what let's you reposition the boldest bart of the slur. Correct. But this ca...

Different slur thickness and centring

Split questions from: https://notat.io/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=107&start=30#p1807 Well, here is an example of differentiation in thickness on left and right side: Screen%20Shot%202016-02-29%20at%2017.19.27.png In my Finale settings I added extra thickness to the LEFT (EDIT TYPO:not right) side o...

Re: Beautifying Mallet Percussion

Marimba follows a lot of the same conventions as piano, namely RH stems up, LH stems down. However, this leads to the following results to maintain that convention: marimba_1.JPG marimba_2.JPG Anyone have any suggestions? I have numerous questions. For me it seems that this was done by someone (per...

Re: [puzzle] Slur solutions 1

Would you include other staff objects in this? For example, if a tie/slur cut right through a time-signature/key-signature change? I would indeed break a tie in those situations, but not slurs. I've never come across a situation where this was inevitable, at least. Agree, I think it is OK for ties ...

Re: RE: Re: [puzzle] Slur solutions 1

I am still pondering my own definition of centering the tip of a slur. In the diagram, the first measure shows slur tips that are perpendicularly over the middle of the note head; but the fourth beat shows an issue with this definition. The second measure shows what I have always considered to be c...

I have numerous suggestions that cover composition, notation and engraving. But I am unsure if you are looking for that also.

Re: Beautifying Mallet Percussion

I find these examples a bit unpleasant. There are numerous things I would change.
About LH RH direction, I don't have a particular opinion.
