Re: Going digital

Distributing my works through PDF is what I do since several years. I always found printing and sending the performance material to be a lot of tedious work. I also usually "personalize" the sended PDFs with watermaks or additional footer added with Acrobat but with Dorico being able to pr...

Re: Slurs over systems

@John Ruggero and @ OCTO I find your suggestions very usefull. Would you mind to post some pictures of how you design such slurs? Right now I have to edit such slurs-breaks in Dorico (which has in my view for this specific case a not so nice default behaviour) and it would help a lot to see real exa...

Re: Very Short Octave Sign Rant

I find it always very interesting and instructive to read opinions on the appearance of such things. Alone I would not be able to "see" how important it can be. Thanks for this. I quickly tried to mimic the last example of John Ruggero in Dorico dorico octave line.jpg BTW Dorico can quite ...

Re: A modern looking score in 2018?

Trying to many fonts is like working at a perfume store. After some time you can't truly feel any perfume and distinguish it clearly. But I sometimes just wonder how do the professionals are working? They must surely work longer than a few minutes The professional engravers do not change fonts freq...

Re: A modern looking score in 2018?

Here is an example of a 4-parts vocal score. Each score uses only one typeface either normal or condensed. Lyrics and staff labels have a condensed width to allow at least three bars per staff. A normal width would allow only two bars per staff. The Garamond score looks quite good to me and if I was...

Re: A modern looking score in 2018?

@odod Oh, Amazing, what a great font! It looks like Optima or Zapf Humanist. Now my score has the chance to be engraved by an engraver who really knows his stuff! :-) I need more time to have a deeper look and to answer but in case you need the lyrics, here they are: Sieh, endlich es ist Zeit, erhe...

Trying to many fonts is like working at a perfume store. After some time you can't truly feel any perfume and distinguish it clearly. Now with this I completely agree with you :-) But I sometimes just wonder how do the professionals are working? They must surely work longer than a few minutes :grin...

Re: A modern looking score in 2018?

Examples are indeed interesting. But of course it also depends on what one is trying to prove with an example. On my side I try to search and find out what is possibly working. Here are some examples of the same score each using different fonts. (Edit: for some unknown reasons after uploading the pi...

Re: A modern looking score in 2018?

@Odod so i think, you do not need to worry about the font, engraving is an art, that is why sometimes artists don't follow the rules, the real artists were those who "invented their own stylistic art into a working ground rule every time they started a new one, and sometimes new things came aft...
