Re: What a difference a line makes!

It is occasionally asked whether lyric extension lines serve any useful purpose -- and sometimes one sees scores that don't use them. I recently had to sing the following**, where the words "Christ" and "Christ-mas" were both used in melismas; so you had to decide what vowel you...

Badly placed or perhaps a little too small.
I would agree. Seems to be "2".

Re: The Stravigor?

That is a great tool, and I would like to have it (Stravigor), but not so large staff size though.
Here is another "thing", a simple idea, but not something I would like to have.

Stravigor seems more clever.

Re: SCORE Music Publishing System VS. Graphire Music Press

I’m not a lawyer, but my understanding is that you cannot copyright the letter forms and glyph shapes themselves, but only the font software, i.e. the actual outline data, metrics, etc. from the font file itself. I am not a layer either, but I believe that copyright means "not to copy by any m...

Re: string quad-stop question

Sorry for late reply. Actually, in Bach time there was a certain type of bow, so called now, the baroque arched bow, that was able to play the sustained all strings together. The arched bow's hairs were kept taut by the player's thumb and loosened when performing chords. Numerous depictions from Bac...

Re: string quad-stop question

In both cases you will hear a very similar sound, but MAYBE I would guess that the grace note has risk -- if it is what you want -- to be played before the beat. In the literature we can find so many different types, it is impossible to give a definitive answer. There is a very beautiful chord in Ys...

Re: Divisi question

Agree with Anders as well. Unison playing doesn't mean "single voice". In your case it is "two voices divided".

Re: Placement of the staccato on headless notes

Yes, I guessed it was the correct way, however NONE of the available notation software respect this rule. There are other issues with the example above. As you see, I have adjusted the spacing between the first two notes in the first example. Example on the right is default and has numerous issues: ...

Placement of the staccato on headless notes

I've come across a question about staccato markings. As the rule, staccato is placed above the notehead, centered, with a 0.5 (in space) to 1 space distance (on line) from the edge of the notehead. However, I noticed that with headless notes, the centered option doesn't seem to look quite right. Wha...

Re: divisi to non-divisi notation in strings

I had recently the similar case and yes, tutti unis. is perfectly clear to understand. Tutti, because they all play now; Unis, because they are now united and not divided into play/rest division. would either of you think that the bar with only inside desks having a whole note rest for the outside d...
