Re: Composers vs Engravers: Logic
A remarkable case of note placement between the staves. Why doesn't the distribution of chords 5 and 6 match 1-4 and 7-9? Chopin op 25 no 7 note distribution.jpg From the musical point of view, the first measure tries to end on the chords in the third measure, but the second measure interrupts. This...

Re: The treble clef as handwritten by great composers
Sorry, odod. The clef looks fine. I thought OCTO was suggesting creating a whole font based on Arensky's handwriting, not just the treble clef.

Re: The treble clef as handwritten by great composers
I will try to make this Interesting. Has anyone ever tried to make a font that imitated a single composer's handwriting? This could be a first. odod, in case you haven't found it yet, I took the example from http://ks.petruccimusiclibrary.org/files/imglnks/usimg/7/7b/IMSLP106655-PMLP15702-AArensky_...

Re: Dorico 1.2 released
Thanks, Knut. The change in workflow probably wouldn't bother me either; in fact, it would be interesting to try something new, but, as you say, it's results that count. For that reason, the items you listed completely rule out Dorico for me at this point, unfortunately.

Re: Brahms vs Joachim on articulation
Thanks for those examples, Schonbergian. The Rheinberger is, as you say, a smart use of instrumental notation in vocal music. Vaughan Williams seems to be indicating breathing places with his slurs, since they often occur in places where they are not obvious. But the following is very strange. Is a ...

Re: Brahms vs Joachim on articulation
Personally, I've never had that problem with Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and any other composer that's used slurs in this way. If the music is well-written, the phrases will come out naturally. Exactly. That is why these composers never needed to put in phrasing marks. However, they were writing in ...

Re: Font Attempt
odod, I think that through your admirable experimentation, you will gain more and more self-confidence and become less reliant on existing editions. Then your engraving will be completely "personalized."
